King<\/strong> also ordered Antonio Jerome Cook, 37, to pay $537,309 in restitution to the IRS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Cook pleaded guilty in October 2015 to one count of conspiracy to commit tax fraud.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy37 pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pgls0 pgws0\"><span class=\"pglse pgws6\" style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cAs we enter the 2016 tax season, it is important that we continue to work with<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy38 pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pgls10 pgws13\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">IRS criminal i<span class=\"pglse pgws6\">nvestigators to ensure the honesty and integrity of the tax system,\u201d said<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy39 pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pglse pgws6\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker<\/strong>. \u201cIdentifying fraudulent claims against the<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy3a pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pglsf pgwsf\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">go<span class=\"pglse pgws6\">vernment and prosecuting those responsible for illegally filing false tax returns\u00a0<\/span>protects all taxpayers and helps ensure the fairness of the entire system.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to court documents, in late 2008 or early 2009, Cook, along with two co-conspirators, developed a tax fraud scheme where defendants prepared and filed fraudulent tax returns for people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The fraudulent returns were filed on behalf of individuals who agreed to have the defendants prepare their tax returns without knowledge of the fraud scheme along with victims whose identities were stolen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The fraudulent tax returns indicated that the taxpayers were employed by <strong>Picaso Fashions<\/strong>, a business established by Cook in name only.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Evidence indicated that Picaso Fashions did not have any employees and the taxpayers were never actually employed by Picaso. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The tax returns also indicated that Picaso Fashions had withheld too much income tax for each taxpayer, and each fraudulently filed fraudulent tax returns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The scheme related to Picaso Fashions resulted in the filing of 69 false individual federal tax returns during 2009 that claimed tax refunds totaling $621,589, according to the evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In addition to Picaso Fashions, Cook and a co-conspirator independently established other companies to serve as fraudulent employers in tax schemes, according to court documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> Specifically, Cook established at least five other companies to perpetrate similar tax fraud schemes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">For example,\u00a0Cook filed an\u00a0additional 72 tax returns listing a fictitious employer, Arkitek Entertainment Group, which\u00a0fraudulently claimed $486,659 in refunds.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"pf2\" class=\"page-outer-wrapper\" data-reactid=\".4.2.0.0.$700=15882352941177.0.$row-1.0\">\n<div class=\"page-inner-wrapper\" data-reactid=\".4.2.0.0.$700=15882352941177.0.$row-1.0.0\">\n<div id=\"pgpf2\" class=\"pf pgw0 pgh0\">\n<div class=\"pc pgpc2 pgw0 pgh0\">\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy34 pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pgls0 pgws0\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"pgls6\">In total, C<span class=\"pglse pgws10\">ook filed 182 fraudulent returns between 2009 and 2010 seeking t<span class=\"pgls11 pgws14\">ax \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>refunds totaling $1,225,901. <span class=\"pgws10\">The IRS paid full or partial tax <span class=\"pgws6\">refunds on 81 of these <\/span><\/span>returns and suffered actual loss<span class=\"pgws12\">es <span class=\"pgws6\">of $537,309.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy36 pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pglse pgws6\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"t pgm0 pgx0 pghc pgy37 pgff4 pgfs1 pgfc0 pgsc0 pgls0 pgws0\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"pgls10 pgws11\">Co<\/span>&#8211;<span class=\"pglse pgws6\">conspirator, Rebe<span class=\"pgls11 pgws14\">cca <\/span>Magruder, 37, of Dallas, Texas was sentenced in \u00a0<\/span>January <span class=\"pgws6\">to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $119,671 for her role in <\/span>the scheme.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal judge sentenced a North Hollywood man to four years in prison for his role in a tax fraud conspiracy scheme that fraudulently claimed more than $1.2 million in fraudulent tax refunds.<br \/>\nU.S. District Judge George H.
