Lynch Discusses Dietary Supplements.\u00a0National Consumer Protection Week is a coordinated campaign that encourages consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and make better-informed decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fYqNVXTsJRU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act states that it defines a dietary ingredient as a vitamin; mineral; herb or other botanical; amino acid; dietary substance for use by man to supplement the diet by increasing the total dietary intake; or a concentrate, metabolite, constituent, extract, or combination of the preceding substances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Unlike drugs, <em>supplements are not intended to treat, diagnose, prevent, or cure diseases<\/em>. That means supplements should not make claims, such as \u201creduces pain\u201d or \u201ctreats heart disease.\u201d Claims like these can only legitimately be made for drugs, not dietary supplements, according to the FDC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Dietary supplements include such ingredients as vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids, and enzymes.
