{"id":21656,"date":"2016-03-23T22:40:46","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T05:40:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=21656"},"modified":"2016-03-23T22:43:21","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T05:43:21","slug":"man-allegedly-engaged-sexually-illicit-conduct-boys-indicted-federal-grand-jury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=21656","title":{"rendered":"Man Who Allegedly Engaged in Sexually Illicit Conduct With Boys Indicted by Federal Grand Jury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>LOS ANGELES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A federal grand jury indicted a resident of Montrose Wednesday on charges of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places and sex trafficking of a minor, federal officials announced Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21657 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Thailand-300x231.gif\" alt=\"Thailand\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Thailand-300x231.gif 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Thailand-768x591.gif 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Thailand-1024x788.gif 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Thailand-45x35.gif 45w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Paul Alan Shapiro<\/strong>, 69, was originally indicted on April 22, 2015, on charges relating to his travel to Thailand and illicit sexual conduct with minor boys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the indictment, in February 2010, Shapiro traveled from Los Angeles to Thailand, where Shapiro paid minors as young as 14 years old small amounts of local currency in order to engage in various sex acts with them.\u00a0 Shapiro also allegedly took photographs of himself engaging in sexually explicit conduct with the boys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cChild predators cannot flee f\u00a0United States in the hope of having a safe haven for their criminal conduct,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker. \u201cTo protect the most vulnerable among us, my office will pursue Americans who seek to exploit children in other countries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0\u201cThis indictment should serve as a warning to sexual predators who mistakenly believe they can escape justice by exploiting children overseas,\u201d said <strong>Joseph Macias, special agent in charge for Homeland Security Investigations, Los Angeles.<\/strong> \u201cThere is no tolerance for the sexual abuse of foreign children by our citizens, and HSI will work closely with our law enforcement counterparts throughout the world to ensure these criminals face justice.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pasadenastarnews.com\/general-news\/20160323\/montrose-man-accused-of-traveling-to-thailand-for-sex-with-boys\">The Pasadena Star newspaper<\/a><\/strong> reported that the Thai newspaper, Pattaya Mail, stated that Shapiro was arrested in Thailand in 2012 after being allegedly caught in the midst of a lewd act with a 13-year-old boy in a mall restroom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">He told investigator\u2019s he\u2019d purchased the services of the boy for 300 baht, or about $8.50, the Pattaya Mail reported at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Shapiro received a royal pardon in Thailand last year so that he could be deported back to the United States to face charges, according to the newspaper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A
