{"id":22771,"date":"2016-04-22T17:27:17","date_gmt":"2016-04-23T00:27:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=22771"},"modified":"2016-04-23T19:22:27","modified_gmt":"2016-04-24T02:22:27","slug":"fort-worth-police-officer-fired-body-camera-shows-lied-happened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=22771","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth Police Officer Fired After Body Camera Shows He Lied About  What Happened"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mcclatchy-embed\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/article38456115.html\/video-embed\" width=\"640\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div class=\"mcclatchy-embed\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-22773\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/star-telegram-300x53.gif\" alt=\"star-telegram\" width=\"300\" height=\"53\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"mcclatchy-embed\">\n<div class=\"byline element-spacing-small\">\n<p><strong><span class=\"ng_byline_name\">BY DEANNA BOYD<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"ng_byline_email\"><a title=\"\" href=\"mailto:dboyd@star-telegram.com\">dboyd@star-telegram.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"dateline\">FORT WORTH<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"dateline-storybody\">\n<hr \/>\n<div id=\"story-target\" class=\"clearfix\">\n<div id=\"content-body-16194677-73125597\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A police officer has been fired after body camera footage helped reveal that he lied about a suspect\u2019s actions, prompting a charge in the case to be rejected, police said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Fort Worth officer Aaron Cade, who had been with the department since July 2009, has appealed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe burden is on the City to prove the allegations they\u2019ve alleged,\u201d said Craig Driskell, Cade\u2019s attorney with the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas. \u201cWe\u2019ll see how that plays out at arbitration.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Cade had been training a probationary officer on Nov. 1 when they were dispatched to a \u201cshots fired\u201d call at a home.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"tt-wrapper7b0fff1\" class=\"tt-wrapper inread \" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div id=\"tt-mention7b0fff1\" class=\"tt-mention inread \"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to a disciplinary letter, police arrested a man for discharging a firearm in certain municipalities and for outstanding warrants.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cOfficer Cade told the probationary officer during the investigation that he saw the suspect leaning inside a vehicle, and that the vehicle\u2019s glove box was open when Officer Cade searched and found the gun inside it,\u201d says the letter, signed by Chief Joel Fitzgerald.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Unaware that the information provided by Cade was false, the probationary officer completed a jail booking affidavit in support of the arrest and an offense report, the letter says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">But on review, footage from body cameras worn by several officers showed that the glove box was not open as Cade had alleged, the letter says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis information was relevant and material to the arrest and as a result of its falsity, the case was rejected by the Tarrant County district attorney\u2019s office,\u201d it says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In an interview during an administrative investigation, Cade admitted that he did not see the suspect leaning inside the car and that the glove box was unlocked and closed, according to the letter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cOfficer Cade intentionally provided false information to a probationary police officer he went entrusted with by the Fort Worth Police Department to train,\u201d the letter alleges. \u201c\u2026 Officer Cade showed blatant disregard for the policies of the Fort Worth Police Department.
