Part of that money was funnelled to her Church, prosecutors say.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$2\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Posters advertising the developments promised clients \u201caffordable castles\u201d in green neighborhoods by Zaborskikh\u2019s construction company, Olimp, according to the paper. Instead, the would-be buildings are still holes in the ground. Websites advertising the Olimp projects now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spb.kp.ru\/daily\/26518\/3534814\/\" target=\"_blank\">warn<\/a> potential buyers that they will no longer be built, as the company has ceased its operations. (The company\u2019s website is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olymp5.ru\/\" target=\"_blank\">down<\/a>.)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$4\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In 2014, a woman identified only as Anna<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ntv.ru\/novosti\/1221459\/\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a> NTV that she had paid 2.5 million rubles for an apartment and was told that construction would start imminently. The project was then frozen, and she eventually found out that the company had never gotten approvals for the construction.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$5\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">At the time, an attorney for Olimp, the construction company, said that his client had not yet been charged.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$6\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Prosecutors say Zaborskikh gave the cash into the Moscow Church of Scientology disguised as donations.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$7\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The St. Petersburg branch of the church was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.interfax-religion.ru\/?act=news&amp;div=56558\" target=\"_blank\">raided<\/a> in 2014 over large-scale theft allegations. A local newspaper <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fontanka.ru\/2014\/09\/25\/038\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a> at the time that Zaborskikh was the main subject of the investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$8\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In January 2015, authorities raided the Moscow church to analyze financial documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$9\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cDetectives in Saint Petersburg found that some of the stolen funds had been transferred to the account of this religious organization in Moscow,\u201d a spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs told the channel Rossiya. \u201cThe suspect is a member of this organization. The investigation does not exclude possible involvement in this crime on the part of officials and coordinators of this religious organization.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$12\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">But church officials denied involvement with the scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$13\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis search was related to a business located in St. Petersburg,\u201d Natalya Alekseeva, a public relations director for the Moscow church, told the channel Rossiya. \u201cThis matter has no connection with the Church of Scientology in Moscow.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$14\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The raid, however, was only the start of Scientology\u2019s problems in Russia. A Moscow court<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/323206-russia-church-scientology-banned\/\" target=\"_blank\">banned<\/a> the church in November over its American trademark of its name.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$15\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe representatives of the Church of Scientology themselves have created many legal conflicts by restricting the religious freedom through the use of trademarks,\u201d Russia\u2019s Ministry of Justice said, according to RT. \u201cSo it turns out a commercial partnership was spreading the religion, while religion can only be spread by religious organizations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$16\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">But not to be deterred, the Church vowed to appeal and said its trademarks were no different from those appearing on copies of the Bible or the Quran. The European Court of Human Rights has, in fact, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2015\/nov\/23\/russian-court-bans-moscow-branch-church-of-scientology\" target=\"_blank\">ruled<\/a> in favor of Scientology several times.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper text\" data-reactid=\".0.2.1.2.$0.2.3.$17\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis is the only Church of Scientology in Russia,\u201d attorneys told RT. \u201cIf it is liquidated, the country\u2019s scientologists would not be able to confess in Russia, because the priest would not be protected by the
