{"id":26588,"date":"2016-09-14T16:25:25","date_gmt":"2016-09-14T23:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=26588"},"modified":"2016-09-14T16:30:30","modified_gmt":"2016-09-14T23:30:30","slug":"riverside-prepper-stockpiled-arsenal-pleads-guilty-facing-10-years-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=26588","title":{"rendered":"Riverside &#8220;Prepper&#8221; Who Stockpiled Arsenal Pleads Guilty, Facing up to 10 Years in Prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>LOS ANGELES<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A Riverside man and self-proclaimed \u201cDoomsday Prepper\u201d who possessed an arsenal of weapons and thousands of rounds of ammunition has plead guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, officials announced Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-15368 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Courtroom.jpg\" alt=\"Courtroom\" width=\"200\" height=\"181\" \/>Hector Mariscal<\/strong>, 41, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court and admitted that he unlawfully possessed semi-automatic firearms, shotguns, rifles, a receiver for an AR-15 machine gun, and various types of ammunition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Mariscal also admitted in court that he was not legally allowed to possess these items because he previously sustained felony convictions for burglary \u2013 and being a felon in possession of a firearm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to court documents, law enforcement officers executed a federal search warrant at Mariscal\u2019s residence near Riverside City College in June. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">During the search, officials said law enforcement seized firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, tasers, silencers, body armor and a flare launcher.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to an affidavit filed in the case, on the date of the search, Mariscal admitted that he was a convicted felon who illegally possessed multiple firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Mariscal repeatedly described himself as a \u201cDoomsday Prepper,\u201d who in connection with his preparation also collected knives and other dangerous items, including a flare launcher. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the affidavit, Mariscal told investigators that he regularly goes to the swap meet to obtain firearms and other dangerous weapons, stating, \u201cYou\u2019d be surprised what you can find at a swap meet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis defendant\u2019s continued affinity for guns has earned him a second felony conviction, this time for illegally possessing firearms,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker. \u201cThe defendant flagrantly violated laws designed to protect the public by keeping firearms away from convicted felons, and now he faces a substantial period of time in a federal prison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The case against Mariscal is the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cMr. Mariscal previously admitted to a felony conviction for the same conduct,\u201d said ATF Special Agent in Charge Eric D. Harden. \u201cATF works with our partner agencies to identify and prosecute those that choose to repeatedly circumvent regulations designed to protect our communities from gun violence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">U.S. District Judge Manuel Real scheduled sentencing for Nov. 21.
