{"id":27088,"date":"2016-10-06T18:27:26","date_gmt":"2016-10-07T01:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=27088"},"modified":"2016-10-06T18:27:26","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T01:27:26","slug":"six-soldiers-two-others-allegedly-sold-sensitive-military-equipment-on-ebay-worth-1-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=27088","title":{"rendered":"Six Soldiers, Two Others Allegedly Sold Sensitive Military Equipment on eBay Worth $1 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>TENNESSEE<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A federal grand jury indicted eight defendants, including six Fort Campbell soldiers, for allegedly stealing and selling sensitive military equipment, officials announced Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2828 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/eBay.png\" alt=\"eBay\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/eBay.png 200w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/eBay-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>The equipment was sold and shipped to anonymous eBay bidders, including some living in foreign countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThe actions of the soldiers charged today should in no way stain the honor of the brave men and women who proudly serve in our country\u2019s armed forces and selflessly give everything to protect America\u2019s freedom,\u201d said U.S. Attorney David Rivera of Tennessee.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Adding,\u201cTo the contrary, we never want to allow the illegal and self-serving actions of a few to cast a shadow on the thousands of military heroes who every day place themselves in harm\u2019s way to protect this great nation.\u00a0\u00a0 Today we seek both to hold accountable all those who seek to financially profit from the illegal sale of stolen, sensitive and restricted military equipment as well as to thank the U.S. military personnel around the world whose dedication and service safeguards us all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the indictment, the soldiers charged stole more than $1 million worth of sensitive military equipment from the U.S. Army installation at Fort Campbell and sold it to others, including Roberts and Wilson, who then re-sold the equipment on eBay.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The items sold included sniper telescopes and rifle accessories, machine gun parts and accessories, grenade launcher sights, flight helmets, communication headsets, body armor and medical supplies.\u00a0 Many of these items were advertised as \u201cArmy Special Forces\u201d and \u201cU.S. Government Issued,&#8221; the indictment states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Those charged in the indictment are<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">John Roberts, 26, of Clarksville, Tennessee<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Cory Wilson aka Jason Cory Wilson, 42, of Clarksville<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> U.S. Army Sargent Michael Barlow, 29, of Clarksville<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">U.S. Army Sargent Jonathan Wolford, 28, of Clarksville<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">U.S. Army Specialist Kyle Heade, 29, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">U.S. Army Specialist Alexander Hollibaugh, 25, of Fort Campbell<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">U.S. Army Specialist Dustin Nelson, 22, of Fort Campbell<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">U.S. Army Specialist Aaron Warner, 24, of Fort Campbell<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The indictment also alleges that Roberts and Wilson illegally sold certain restricted U.S. Army equipment, including night vision helmet mounts, to eBay customers located in foreign nations including Russia, China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Lithuania, Moldova, Malaysia, Romania and Mexico.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23381 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Columbia-South-Carolina-federal-Courtroom-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"Columbia South Carolina federal Courtroom\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Columbia-South-Carolina-federal-Courtroom-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Columbia-South-Carolina-federal-Courtroom.jpg 650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The indictment also alleges that Wilson sold flight helmet mounts, advertised as USGI, to buyers in Russia, China and Kazakhstan and Roberts sold advanced communications headset helmets to buyers in Russia and China.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The indictment charges each defendant with conspiring to steal or receive U.S. Army property and to sell or convey U.S. Army property without authority.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In addition, Roberts was charged with 10 counts of wire fraud and one count of violating the Arms Export Control Act and Wilson was charged with seven counts of wire fraud, one count of money laundering and one count of violating the Arms Export Control Act.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> Barlow was also charged with three counts of selling or conveying U.S. Army property without authority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cAs reflected by our name, HSI considers the national security interests of our nation among our top priorities,\u201d said Special Agent in Charge Raymond R. Parmer of HSI New Orleans Field Office. \u00a0\u201cIt&#8217;s especially disturbing when we identify corrupted members of our military who undermine the welfare of this this country, so we, along with our law enforcement partners, shall continue to aggressively investigate this type of criminal activity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Each defendant faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the conspiracy charge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> Roberts and Wilson face up to 20 years for each count of wire fraud and violating the Arms Export Control Act and Wilson faces up to an additional 20 years on the money laundering charge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> In addition, Barlow faces up to 10 years in prison on each conveying charge. \u00a0The defendants also face forfeiture of the proceeds of their crimes.\u00a0 Any sentences would be imposed by the Court after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable federal statutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TENNESSEE A federal grand jury indicted eight defendants, including six Fort Campbell soldiers, for allegedly stealing and selling sensitive military equipment, officials announced Thursday.
