Walter sentenced Michael Quinn, 33, of Melbourne, on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis defendant appeared to be a successful, well-liked professional \u2013 but he had a secret, online life in which he made clear his sexual interest in children,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker. \u201cThis defendant thought he had arranged to rape a young child, but the vigilance of law enforcement spared any potential victims from being sexual abused.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement\u2019s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested Quinn on May 21 when he arrived at a Los Angeles-area hotel to buy a 6-year-old boy for sex.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13046 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"U.S. Courthouse Los Angeles\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246-120x76.jpg 120w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246-274x173.jpg 274w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246-308x192.jpg 308w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246-610x380.jpg 610w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/U.S.-Courthouse-Los-Angeles-e1435018436246.jpg 722w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>According to documents filed in the case, the investigation began in May 2016 after undercover agents observed Quinn on a social networking site that caters to individuals with a sexual interest in children. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Quinn admitted that he told undercover agents he was traveling to Los Angeles and wanted to \u201cmeet up with a dad who shares his young ones.\u201d Specifically, Quinn told the agents, whom he believed were like-minded people, that he was hoping to meet \u201cother pervs\u201d in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Quinn ultimately agreed to pay a human trafficker $250 to provide him with a young boy with whom he could engage in illicit sex. Once Quinn arrived in Los Angeles, he was arrested after paying another undercover agent $260.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">F<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">ormer team-mates of Quinn told \u00a0they feel horror and anger towards their former friend and have been targeted by online trolls since his arrest, according to ABC News. \u00a0They said they had no idea he led a double life<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"first\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In May, while he was traveling to the US for the Bingham Cup, a gay-friendly rugby tournament, he was caught in a sting operation trying to have sex with a six-year-old boy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Speaking exclusively to the ABC station, members of the Melbourne Chargers rugby union club said many of them had to undergo counseling after Quinn was arrested, and that they had been accused by strangers, and even family members, of harboring a pedophile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">To read the entire ABC News article click here: \u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2016-11-01\/teammates-shocked-and-trolled-after-michael-quinn-arrested\/7983746\">Michael Quinn<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the plea agreement filed in this case, \u201ca dominant purpose of his travel was to anally sodomize someone he knew was a 6-year-old boy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u201cThis sentence should serve as a powerful deterrent to online child predators who mistakenly believe the internet and a plane ticket will enable them to act on their dark desires with impunity,\u201d said Joseph Macias, special agent in charge of HSI Los Angeles. \u201cPedophiles should be on notice, HSI and its law enforcement partners are using all of the resources at our disposal to combat this reprehensible behavior and hold the perpetrators responsible for their crimes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U-xlbtVh058\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>*This case is a product of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, and HSI\u2019s Operation Predator, an international initiative to protect children from sexual predators.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
