{"id":28988,"date":"2017-01-25T15:42:57","date_gmt":"2017-01-25T23:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=28988"},"modified":"2017-01-25T15:44:25","modified_gmt":"2017-01-25T23:44:25","slug":"clinical-psychologist-and-owner-of-psychological-services-centers-convicted-in-25-million-psychological-testing-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=28988","title":{"rendered":"Owners of Psychological Services Centers Convicted in $25 Million Psychological Testing Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>LOUISIANA<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3918 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png\" alt=\"Department of Justice\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Two owners of psychological services companies, one of whom was a clinical psychologist, were convicted Wednesday for their involvement in a $25.2 million Medicare fraud scheme, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The scam was carried out through eight companies at nursing homes in four states in the Southeastern U.S., officials announced Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The two defendants charged were the following people:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Rodney Hesson, Psy.D, 47, of Slidell, Louisiana, licensed clinical psychologist and owner of Nursing Home Psychological Service of Louisiana LLC, Nursing Home Psychological Service of Mississippi LLC, Nursing Home Psychological Services of Florida LLC and Nursing Home Psychological Service of Alabama LLC (collectively NHPS)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Gertrude Parker, 63, of Slidell, Louisiana, owner of Psychological Care Services of Louisiana, Psychological Care Services of Mississippi, Psychological Care Services of Alabama and Psychological Care Services of Florida (collectively PCS), were convicted following a seven-day jury trial.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0They were each convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and one count of conspiracy to make false statements related to health care matters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0The jury verdict included a money judgment of $8.9 million as well as forfeiture of Hesson\u2019s home and at least $525,629 in seized currency. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A sentencing hearing for both defendants is set for May 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">According to the evidence, the defendants\u2019 companies contracted with nursing homes in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana,<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0and Mississippi to allow NHPS and PCS clinical psychologists to provide psychological services to nursing home residents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Hesson and Parker caused these companies to bill Medicare for hours of psychological testing services that these nursing home residents did not need or in some instances did not receive.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Between 2009 and 2015, NHPS and PCS submitted over $25.2 million in claims to Medicare, a significant amount of these claims being fraudulent.\u00a0\u00a0Medicare paid more than $13.5 million on the fraudulent claims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LOUISIANA Two owners of psychological services companies, one of whom was a clinical psychologist, were convicted Wednesday for their involvement in a $25.2 million Medicare fraud scheme, according to officials.
