They <a href=\"http:\/\/oceana.org\/marine-life\/sea-turtles-reptiles\/banded-sea-krait\">prey on eels<\/a>, which they can find when they slide through a reef\u2019s crevices. Female sea snakes tend to go for bigger <\/span>eels<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> in deeper <\/span>waters,<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> because <a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1046\/j.1442-9993.2002.01161.x\/abstract\">female sea snakes are bigger<\/a> than their male counterparts. Males are more likely to attack smaller prey in shallow waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"parbase smartbody section text\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">At one point in the video, the snake\u2019s muscles contract in a curved shape in order to finish consuming the last stretch of the eel\u2019s body. Given the size of the eel at the beginning of the video, it is clear that a good portion of the snake\u2019s body is full by the time it finishes its meal.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"parbase smartbody section text\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The banded sea krait\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/ocean.nationalgeographic.com\/ocean\/photos\/toxic-sea-creatures\/#\/toxic01-banded-seakrait_13490_600x450.jpg\">venom is very poisonous<\/a>\u2014it is ten times more toxic than a rattlesnake\u2019s venom. When they hunt, they <a href=\"http:\/\/oceana.org\/marine-life\/sea-turtles-reptiles\/banded-sea-krait\">paralyze their prey<\/a> with their venom and then swallow prey whole. But this particular kind of sea snake is so shy that human bites are <\/span>rare,<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"> since it only attacks in self-defense.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"parbase smartbody section text\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">It is the <a href=\"http:\/\/ocean.nationalgeographic.com\/ocean\/photos\/toxic-sea-creatures\/#\/toxic01-banded-seakrait_13490_600x450.jpg\">only kind of sea snake that is amphibious<\/a>, and it can spend up to 10 days on land, where it may digest its food, mate, or lay eggs.
