{"id":42191,"date":"2021-02-26T19:53:31","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T03:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=42191"},"modified":"2021-02-26T20:11:47","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T04:11:47","slug":"two-men-sentenced-for-killing-3-year-old-boy-during-shootout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=42191","title":{"rendered":"Two Men Sentenced for Killing 3-Year-old Boy During Shootout"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Los Angeles <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Two men were sentenced today for the murder of a 3-year-old boy during a shootout in a Compton liquor store parking lot in 2018, according to state officials.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_42192\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42192\" style=\"width: 275px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/two-men-sentenced-for-killing-3-year-old-boy-during-shootout\/download-4-19\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42192\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42192 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/download-4-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-42192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Three-Year-Old Franklin Ponros<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">\u201cThe pain caused by the loss of a young child is unimaginable, more so when it\u2019s caused by senseless violence,\u201d District Attorney Gasc\u00f3n said. \u201cToday\u2019s life sentences will ensure these men will never hurt another innocent victim again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Dwayne Ward, 32, and Kevaughn Harris,30, both of Compton, were sentenced to life in prison.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Ward and Harris were both found guilty in December 2019 of one count each of second-degree murder, firing at an occupied motor vehicle, felon with a firearm and attempted murder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">On Jan. 20, 2018, Harris was walking toward a car parked outside a liquor store in the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Inside the vehicle were his girlfriend and her 3-year-old son Franklin Ponros.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Ward was sitting in a nearby vehicle when a confrontation began with Harris. Both men pulled out handguns and began firing at one another.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">Franklin, who was sitting in the backseat of the vehicle, was fatally shot in the exchange of gunfire. His mother was not injured.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\">The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s
