{"id":42379,"date":"2021-03-25T20:50:18","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T03:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=42379"},"modified":"2021-03-25T20:50:18","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T03:50:18","slug":"man-admits-to-robbing-six-pharmacies-while-wearing-a-medical-mask-over-his-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=42379","title":{"rendered":"Man Admits to Robbing Six Pharmacies While Wearing a Medical Mask Over His Face"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>RIVERSIDE, California\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A Riverside County man plead guilty Thursday to federal criminal charges that he engaged in a month-long robbery spree of pharmacies while wearing a medical mask over his face, officials stated.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/alleged-con-man-who-romanced-some-of-his-victims-stole-more-than-1-million-from-them\/gavelbook\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42278\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-42278 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Gavelbook.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6000\" height=\"4000\" \/><\/a> David Anthony Battle, 51, of Moreno Valley, plead guilty to six felony counts of interference with commerce by robbery, violating the Hobbs Act robbery.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to his plea agreement, from July 6, 2020 to August 10, 2020, Battle robbed six pharmacies \u2013 Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid \u2013 in Moreno Valley, Colton, and San Bernardino, and attempted to rob two other Moreno Valley pharmacies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Battle stole a total of about $5,400 from six pharmacies, the indictment says: two Walgreens in Moreno Valley, two Rite Aids in Moreno Valley and one in Colton and a CVS in San Bernardino.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to the Press-Enterprise newspaper in Riverside, Battle was arrested Aug. 10 as he attempted to enter the Walgreens at 16020 Perris Blvd. while carrying a gun, the Riverside County Sheriff\u2019s Department said at the time. He was driving a white Dodge Challenger and wearing the same clothing seen at previous robbery attempts, including two others on Perris Boulevard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 During each incident, Battle wore similar clothing \u2013 including wearing medical masks covering his nose and mouth \u2013 and used a similar method of brandishing what appeared to be a handgun by pulling it out from his waistband and holding it at his side, according to an affidavit filed with a criminal complaint in this case. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">He then demanded that money in the cash register be placed in a bag and handed over, the plea agreement states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Law enforcement reviewed store surveillance videos, which led them to arrest Battle, court documents state. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">During Battle\u2019s arrest, a black BB-gun-style pistol was found on the ground near him, the affidavit states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Battle netted $5,453 in illicit gains from the robberies, though $3,200 of that came from the July 6 robbery of a Walgreens store in Moreno Valley, according to the plea agreement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 United States District Judge Jesus G. Bernal has scheduled a June 14 sentencing hearing, at which time Battle will face a statutory maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison for each Hobbs Act robbery count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The FBI, the Riverside County Sheriff\u2019s Department, the San Bernardino Police Department, and the Colton Police Department investigated this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7513754545MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assistant United States Attorney Peter H.
