Blanca Schoneke, 38, of Walnut, each pleaded not guilty Tuesday to nine charges contained in an indictment unsealed after their arrests. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The indictment charges Schoneke and Gonzalez with one count of conspiracy, seven counts of wire fraud, and one count of aggravated identity theft.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/woman-convicted-of-making-video-depicting-the-killing-of-puppies-chickens-and-kittens\/courtroom-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-15368\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-15368\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Courtroom.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"241\" \/><\/a>According to the indictment, Schoneke and Gonzalez, with the help of co-conspirators, operated real estate and escrow companies based in Cerritos, La Palma and Long Beach under a variety of names, including MCR and West Coast. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The indictment alleges Schoneke and Gonzalez found properties that they would list for sale \u2013 even though many, in fact, were not for sale, and they did not have authority to list them for sale \u2013 and they then marketed the properties as short sales providing opportunities for purchases at below-market prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/alleged-con-man-who-romanced-some-of-his-victims-stole-more-than-1-million-from-them\/lady-justice\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-42277\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-42277 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Lady-justice-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Using other people\u2019s broker\u2019s licenses, Schoneke and Gonzalez allegedly listed the properties on real estate websites such as the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In some cases, the indictment alleges, the homes were marketed through open houses that co-conspirators were able to host after tricking homeowners into allowing their homes to be used.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As part of the alleged scheme, the co-conspirators accepted multiple offers for each of the not-for-sale properties, hiding this fact from the victims and instead leading each of the victims to believe that his or her offer was the only one accepted. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/cropped-justice-scales-jpg\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-36219\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/cropped-Justice-Scales.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a>The co-conspirators allegedly were able to string along the victims \u2013 sometimes for years \u2013 by telling them closings were being delayed because lenders needed to approve the purported short sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The indictment also alleges that Schoneke and Gonzalez directed office workers to open bank accounts in the office workers\u2019 names. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Those accounts were used to receive down payments on the homes and other payments from victims who were convinced to transfer the full \u201cpurchase price\u201d to these bank accounts after receiving forged short sale approval letters. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Schoneke and Gonzalez also allegedly directed the office workers to withdraw large amounts of cash from these accounts and give it to them \u2013 a procedure that allowed Schoneke and Gonzalez to take possession of the fraud proceeds while hiding their involvement in the scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Investigators estimate that several hundred victims collectively lost more than $6 million during the scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3089815455MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">If convicted of all charges,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Schoneke and Gonzalez\u00a0each would face a statutory maximum sentence of 162 years in federal prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Schoneke and Gonzalez are
