{"id":42618,"date":"2021-05-04T12:05:04","date_gmt":"2021-05-04T19:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=42618"},"modified":"2021-05-04T12:34:10","modified_gmt":"2021-05-04T19:34:10","slug":"woman-pleads-guilty-to-tax-and-drug-charges-from-multimillion-dollar-marijuana-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=42618","title":{"rendered":"Woman Pleads Guilty to Tax and Drug Charges from Multimillion-Dollar Marijuana Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 id=\"node-title\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>Massachusetts<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">A Massachusetts woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to tax evasion, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and money laundering, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/skid-row\/judge-gavel\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-39979\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-39979\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/judge-gavel-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>According to court documents and the criminal complaint, Deana Martin, 53, of Milton, owned and managed Northern Herb, an illegal marijuana delivery service that operated in Massachusetts from 2015 to 2018. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">While Northern Herb purported to sell medical marijuana, it did not require a customer to provide proof of a medical marijuana card. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0Allegedly, Northern Herb would deliver marijuana to unattended locations (such as a front door or hallway) where unknown third parties might have access to it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Northern Herb used locations in Canton, Milton, Foxborough, and Hyde Park to store and distribute marijuana, and employed at least 25 workers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">From May 2016 through July 2018, Northern Herb had total revenue exceeding $14 million. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Northern Herb did not pay taxes on its profits nor withhold taxes due from its employees\u2019 wages. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Martin paid many of the employees in cash and did not collect or pay the IRS withholdings that were due nor file with the IRS required reports documenting the payments made to Northern Herb\u2019s employees and independent contractors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">U.S. District Judge Timothy S. Hillman accepted Martin\u2019s guilty plea.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; text-align: center;\">Martin is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 1.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uaOf7-rpf4E\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n(News Report: April 2019)<\/p>\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">On the drug counts, Martin faces a maximum sentence of up to 20 years of prison and a maximum fine of a million dollars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">On the money laundering counts, Martin faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $500,000 or twice the value of the money laundered. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">On the tax count, Martin faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum fine of $100,000. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Martin also faces restitution and forfeiture. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Massachusetts A Massachusetts woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to tax evasion, conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and money laundering, officials stated.
