A Los Angeles County sheriff\u2019s deputy was charged Thursday for lying about finding a gun in a vehicle two years ago, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cLying under oath damages the credibility of law enforcement and creates doubt and mistrust by the public,\u201d District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n said. \u201cThe scales of justice must always remain balanced in a court of law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Kevin Honea, 32, was charged with one felony count of perjury. He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>On May 24, 2019, the defendant was among a group of deputies who found a car at a Gardena motel that had been used in a recent crime. During a search of the vehicle, a stolen handgun was found in the vehicle\u2019s trunk by another sheriff\u2019s deputy, prosecutors said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Honea is accused of lying during testimony at a preliminary hearing that he discovered the weapon in the front seat of the vehicle, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n
