city of Downey over an 18-month period costing the city more than $60,000, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/pit-bull-owner-sentenced-15-years-life-animals-killed-woman\/district-attorney-los-angeles\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6360\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6360 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/District-Attorney-Los-Angeles.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"261\" \/><\/a>\u201cNo one should abuse their position and betray the public\u2019s trust,\u201d District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Alejandro \u201cAlex\u201d Silva, 43, and Mike Shafer aka Mike Shidfar, 59, were charged with one felony count each of embezzlement of government funds, misappropriation of public funds, and grand theft, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Both men pleaded not guilty today and are scheduled to return on August 27 for a pre-preliminary hearing in Dept 50 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The case was filed on March 30.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Beginning in 2017, Shafer, who worked as a manager for an auto parts store, allegedly ordered items online with a business credit card and then sent invoices to Downey officials by disguising the items as car parts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Silva, a lead worker for the city\u2019s maintenance and facilities department, is accused of assisting Shafer by forging the appropriate paperwork to match the forged documents. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As a result of this scheme, Downey lost over $60,000, prosecutors said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The case was investigated by Downey Police
