{"id":43551,"date":"2021-08-02T08:53:44","date_gmt":"2021-08-02T15:53:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=43551"},"modified":"2021-08-02T08:53:44","modified_gmt":"2021-08-02T15:53:44","slug":"ex-ceo-of-la-quinta-communications-stole-5-million-from-bank-through-fraudulent-loans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=43551","title":{"rendered":"Ex-CEO of La Quinta Communications Stole $5 Million from Bank Through Fraudulent Loans"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0RIVERSIDE, California\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">         The former CEO of a La Quinta-based communication services company was sentenced this week to 27\u00a0months in federal prison, according to officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">         He fraudulently obtained $5 million in bank loans by submitting sham financial documents that overstated his company\u2019s net worth, officials stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0U.S. District Judge John Holcomb sentenced Richard Loren Lewis, 67, of La Quinta, and ordered him to pay $3.4 million in restitution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Kentucky-River-Regional-Jail-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30806\" width=\"418\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Kentucky-River-Regional-Jail-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Kentucky-River-Regional-Jail-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Kentucky-River-Regional-Jail-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Kentucky-River-Regional-Jail.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">         Lewis pleaded guilty on May 7 to one count of bank fraud and one count of making a false statement to a financial institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; From April 2013 to April 2016, Lewis, who was the CEO of Blue Wave Media Inc., schemed to defraud Silicon Valley Bank, a Santa Clara-based commercial bank that funds start-up technology companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lewis gave false financial documents to Silicon Valley Bank that misrepresented Blue Wave Media\u2019s net worth, liquidity, and revenue so the bank would lend millions of dollars to his company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">          The false financial statements claimed that Blue Wave Media had millions of dollars in cash deposits and millions of dollars more in revenue streams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">           In truth, Blue Wave Media had little to no cash on hand and little to no incoming revenue. Lewis\u2019s misrepresentations made the bank to approve four loans totaling $5 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5906\" width=\"311\" height=\"311\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice.jpg 200w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Lewis signed a loan and security agreement with Silicon Valley Bank in April 2013 to secure a $500,000 loan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">          In January 2014, he submitted an amendment to the agreement to the bank to secure an additional $500,000 loan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">          In June 2014, Lewis signed an agreement to secure a $1 million loan.
