{"id":43696,"date":"2021-08-11T19:53:10","date_gmt":"2021-08-12T02:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=43696"},"modified":"2021-08-11T19:53:10","modified_gmt":"2021-08-12T02:53:10","slug":"man-guilty-of-plotting-to-bomb-rally-to-cause-mass-casualties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=43696","title":{"rendered":"Man Guilty of Plotting to Bomb Rally to Cause Mass Casualties"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">Los Angeles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> A federal jury on Wednesday convicted a San Fernando Valley man for attempting to bomb a rally in Long Beach for the purpose of causing mass casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mark Steven Domingo, 28, of Reseda, was found guilty of providing material support to terrorism and attempting to use of a weapon of mass destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; As a result of today\u2019s guilty verdicts, Domingo faces a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison. Domingo, who has been in federal custody since his arrest in April 2019, is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge Stephen V. Wilson on November 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The investigation into Domingo was prompted by his online posts and conversations in an online forum in which he expressed support for violent jihad, a desire to seek retribution for attacks against Muslims, and a willingness to become a martyr. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Local Army Veteran&#039;s Plan To Bomb White Nationalist Rally Foiled\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UZuULYBgudQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">After considering various attacks \u2013 including targeting Jewish people, churches, and police officers \u2013 Domingo decided to bomb a rally scheduled to take place in Long Beach in April 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the plot, Domingo asked a confederate \u2013 who actually was working with the FBI as part of the investigation \u2013 to invite a bomb-maker into the scheme. Domingo then purchased and provided to the confederate and the bomb-maker \u2013 who in fact was an undercover law enforcement officer \u2013 several hundred 3\u00bd-inch nails to be used as shrapnel for the bombs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Domingo specifically chose those nails because they were long enough to penetrate organs in the human body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Leading up to the attack, Domingo called for another event similar to the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas. Following an attack on Muslims in New Zealand in March 2019, Domingo called for retribution in an online post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Domingo selected the Long Beach rally as his target and, in April 2019, drove his confederate and the undercover officer to Long Beach to scout the location he planned to attack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">While there, Domingo discussed finding the most crowded areas so he could kill the most people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">On April 26, 2019, Domingo received what he thought were two live bombs, but were actually inert explosive devices delivered by an undercover law enforcement officer.
