{"id":43861,"date":"2021-08-27T13:58:41","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T20:58:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=43861"},"modified":"2021-08-27T13:58:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-27T20:58:41","slug":"former-priest-and-shelter-home-operator-indicted-for-illicit-sexual-conduct-against-minors-news-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=43861","title":{"rendered":"Former Priest and \u2018Shelter Home\u2019 Operator Indicted for Illicit Sexual Conduct Against Minors  (News Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., returned an indictment Thursday charging a U.S. citizen and resident of Timor Leste with seven counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, according to officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to court documents, Richard Jude Daschbach, 84, is a former priest who is alleged to have engaged in illicit sexual conduct with minor victims in Timor Leste starting in at least 2013. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As alleged, Daschbach operated a \u201cshelter home\u201d for children in Timor Leste. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daschbach is charged with seven counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, Timor Leste. If convicted, he facing up to 30 years in prison per count.  Daschbach is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Victims disclosed that Daschbach sexually abused them when they were children and resided in the shelter home. Daschbach was defrocked by the Catholic church after some of the victims disclosed the abuse to the church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daschbach is currently facing related child sexual exploitation charges in Timor Leste. In addition, in 2019, a grand jury in the Northern District of California returned an indictment against Daschbach for wire fraud in connection with his fundraising activity for the shelter home.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"American ex-priest accused of abuse in East Timor\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CMAI-iOw50I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday&#8217;s indictment represents a significant step toward accountability for harms suffered by multiple vulnerable children allegedly victimized by this defendant,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite Jr. for the Justice Department\u2019s Criminal Division. \u201cI\u2019d like to thank the hardworking investigative and prosecution teams for their work today and every day to ensure that child predators face justice and children are kept safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis case shows that we will use the full extent of the law to prosecute U.S. citizens who allegedly prey on children, no matter how far we must go to bring them to justice,\u201d said Acting U.S. Attorney Channing D.
