{"id":446,"date":"2014-02-04T04:29:26","date_gmt":"2014-02-04T12:29:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=446"},"modified":"2014-02-04T16:23:37","modified_gmt":"2014-02-05T00:23:37","slug":"mexican-mafia-prison-gang-members-others-convicted-racketeering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=446","title":{"rendered":"Mexican Mafia Prison Gang Members and Others Convicted of Racketeering"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\"><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">LOS ANGELES\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u2013 Two Mexican Mafia prison gang members who were found guilty last week \u00a0of federal racketeering charges are part of a criminal case that has resulted in 59 convictions, according to federal prosecutors<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Following a nine-day trial, a federal jury convicted the lead defendant in the racketeering case \u2013 Armando \u201cMando\u201d Barajas, a 50-year-old Mexican Mafia member who resides in Pomona. Barajas controlled the gang\u2019s activities, including the narcotics distribution activities in the gang&#8217;s territory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Another Mexican Mafia member \u2013 Juan \u201cNito\u201d Gil, 43, who was serving a 10-year prison term when he was indicted in 2010 \u2013 was also found guilty last week by a jury that determined he exercised control of gang activities by communicating directions through others linked to the Black Angels&#8217; gang.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The Black Angels is a multi-generational Latino street gang that claimed a portion of city of Ontario as its turf. The Black Angels\u2019 main criminal activity is the distribution of narcotics, specifically methamphetamine and heroin. Leaders of the gang extorted drug dealers, who, in exchange for paying \u201ctaxes\u201d or \u201crent,\u201d were allowed to operate in gang-controlled territory.
