{"id":48919,"date":"2022-02-03T20:26:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T04:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=48919"},"modified":"2022-02-03T20:26:18","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T04:26:18","slug":"trio-indicted-for-allegedly-robbing-six-cell-phone-stores-with-hammers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=48919","title":{"rendered":"Trio Indicted for Allegedly Robbing Six Cell Phone Stores with Hammers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0LOS ANGELES\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5906 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"286\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice.jpg 200w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/>Three Southern California men were charged Thursday in a federal grand jury indictment for allegedly robbing six cell phone stores in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The stores were robbed during business hours on the same day, using hammers to smash display cases to steal iPhones and other merchandise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The indictment charges each of the following defendants with one count of conspiracy and six counts of interference with commerce by robbery (Hobbs Act):<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"yiv6032544621MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Tony Tyron Lee Stewart, 21, of Highland;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv6032544621MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Rayford Newsome, 23, of Compton; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"yiv6032544621MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Jerome Gregory Belser, 20, of San Bernardino.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoListParagraph\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to the indictment, on January 15, 2022, Newsome drove Stewart and Belser in a blue Kia Optima vehicle to rob T-Mobile stores in Long Beach, Carson, Inglewood, Encino and Camarillo, and an AT&amp;T Wireless store in Woodland Hills. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoListParagraph\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Stewart and Belser allegedly entered the stores during store hours to commit the robberies while Newsome remained in the car, according to authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Once inside the stores, Stewart and Belser \u2013 in the presence of store employees and customers \u2013 allegedly used hammers to smash display cases and phone displays to steal telephones and other electronics, the indictment states. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">After stealing the merchandise, Newsome drove Stewart and Belser away from the robbery locations, the indictment alleges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Law enforcement received reports of similar robberies that same day at cell phone stores. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">During the evening of the robberies, GPS location data for Stewart\u2019s and Newsome\u2019s phones and the blue Kia Optima showed that the two phones and the car were in the vicinity of the robberies around the time they occurred, according to an affidavit filed with a criminal complaint in this case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">That same evening, law enforcement used the tracker on the blue Kia Optima to track down the car in North Hollywood. After a short pursuit, the defendants were found in the blue Kia Optima, the affidavit states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"> Inside the car, officers recovered the devices reported stolen during the Encino robbery as well as hammers that had the same distinctive handle coloring as those used during that robbery, according to the indictment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The total loss from the six charged robberies was $33,795, according to the indictment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Law enforcement has linked Stewart, Newsome, and Belser to more than 50 cell phone store robberies throughout Southern California, according to the affidavit filed with the criminal complaint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">If convicted of all charges, each defendant faces up to 20 years in federal prison for each count.<b><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6032544621MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Los Angeles Police Department investigated this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0LOS ANGELES\u00a0 Three Southern California men were charged Thursday in a federal grand jury indictment for allegedly robbing six cell phone stores in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
