Fischer sentenced Pepe whose actions the judge described\u00a0 as \u201cmonstrous\u201d and \u201chorrific.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48965\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48965\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-48965 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-13-300x156.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-13-300x156.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-13.jpg 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Michael Joseph Pepe<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"yiv7175811322MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cWhat he did to those pre-teen girls\u2026was torture,\u201d Judge Fischer said, noting that there was \u201cno justification for a sentence that would ever allow [Pepe] to be released from prison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7175811322MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Judge Fischer has scheduled a restitution hearing in this case for Feb. 28.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7175811322MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 During a seven-day trial in August 2021, jurors heard testimony from eight victims who were as young as 9 years old when they were sexually abused. Each of the victims testified that Pepe sexually abused them, and several explained that Pepe drugged, bound, beat, and raped them.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_48966\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48966\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-48966 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-14-300x159.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-14-300x159.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-14.jpg 308w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48966\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Six of the girls traveled to the U.S. and told a Los Angeles federal court that Pepe drugged, bound, and raped them. (ABC News)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"yiv7175811322MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Prosecutors also presented evidence corroborating the victims\u2019 testimony, including homemade child pornography.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7175811322MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pepe initially was arrested in Cambodia 2006. After being brought to the United States and charged in early 2007, he subsequently was tried, convicted and sentenced to prison. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7175811322MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit overturned the conviction in 2018, and prosecutors retried the defendant on new
