Mexican President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador keeps stepping up his attacks against the press \u2014 an alarming development in the Western Hemisphere\u2019s most dangerous country to be a journalist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Just this year, five journalists have already been killed.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Recently, in a brazen (and likely illegal) act of intimidation, L\u00f3pez Obrador publicly divulged what he said were the sources of income of Carlos Loret de Mola, a Mexican reporter and\u00a0contributing columnist<\/a>\u00a0for The Post\u2019s Spanish-language Post Opini\u00f3n section who has uncovered alleged corruption scandals. In the following days, L\u00f3pez Obrador demanded that other journalists disclose their income. He insinuated that the journalists in the group (in which I was included) were members of a shadowy conservative cabal.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

His obsession with characterizing journalists as political enemies not only adds to the deadly climate of intimidation in Mexico, but also reveals the populist leader\u2019s brazen efforts to obscure the fact that the country is becoming more and more dangerous,\u00a0with various regions<\/a>\u00a0now resembling war zones.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

According to the Washington Post,\u00a0 China is ready to act as mediator between Ukraine and Russia, the country\u2019s foreign minister said on Monday, as he declared Beijing\u2019s relationship with Moscow \u201crock solid\u201d amid international censure of Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s invasion of Ukraine<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While Beijing has consistently called for a negotiated diplomatic solution to the conflict, the comment was the first time officials had formally confirmed readiness to be directly involved.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

Suddenly, the Asian Gangster Xi Jinping wants to continue (when did they begin?) playing a “constructive” role while keeping an eye on the henhouse, Taiwan, and all the fat hens.<\/span><\/div>\n

Of course, no mention that the Chinese will hold a gun to Ukraine’s head while smiling and shoving an agreement written in Chinese in front of the victim.<\/span><\/div>\n
