Man Guilty of Threatening Black Woman and Her Family, Used Racial Epithets"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>NEW JERSEY<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48994 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/download-21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/>Michael Marotta, 26, of Sewell, New Jersey, pleaded guilty Tuesday to making threatening interstate communications. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Marotta admitted that he used an anonymizing text message service to threaten physical harm to a Black woman and her family in Maryland.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to Marotta\u2019s plea agreement, on April 14, 2020, Marotta used an anonymizing mobile phone application to send a threatening message to a Black Maryland woman.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In the message, Marotta used racial epithets to describe the Maryland woman and her family, and he threatened to come to their home and do physical harm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">As detailed in the plea agreement, Marotta wrote, among other things, \u201cI know where you live now, I\u2019m coming to rape your family\u201d and \u201ceat my bullets.\u201d As detailed in his plea agreement, Marotta claims he does not know the recipient-victim of the message, nor does the recipient-victim know Marotta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cThe vile threats issued by this defendant have no place in civilized society,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke for the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division. \u201cThe department, and specifically the Civil Rights Division, will use all tools at our disposal to ensure that people who interfere with the rights of others will be brought to justice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cThe FBI takes threats of violence seriously,\u201d said Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Sobocinksi of the FBI\u2019s Baltimore Field Office. \u201cWe encourage anyone who believes their civil rights were violated to report it to their local police department or FBI field office.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Marotta faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">U.S. District Judge Stephanie A.
