Fitzgerald sentenced Rick Eric Herst, 36, a.k.a. \u201cLoyal,\u201d of Reseda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to officials, Herst plead guilty in February 2021 to one count of conspiracy to traffic in firearms and one count of selling firearms to a convicted felon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 From December 2018 to September 2019, Herst conspired with Jeffrey James LaFraniere, 39, of Van Nuys, and Alan Elperin, 31, of Mission Hills. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49422 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/9z9fxr_7z-k-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"brown mallet on gray wooden surface\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/9z9fxr_7z-k-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/9z9fxr_7z-k-731x1024.jpg 731w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/9z9fxr_7z-k-768x1075.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/9z9fxr_7z-k.jpg 857w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/>Together, these three men burglarized multiple self-storage units in Glendale, Valencia, Culver City, West Los Angeles, Northridge, Culver City, Thousand Oaks, Rancho Mirage and elsewhere, stealing firearms and other valuables, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">They offered the stolen firearms for sale to customers either in person or via text message. LaFraniere and Herst sold the firearms to buyers they knew were convicted felons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For example, on May 30, 2019, the trio burglarized a self-storage facility in Valencia and stole 35 firearms, including multiple .45-caliber pistols, 12-gauge shotguns and high-powered rifles. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">On the same day as the Valencia burglary, LaFraniere and Herst sold two of the stolen firearms \u2013 a .45-caliber pistol and a .40-caliber pistol \u2013 to a buyer whom they knew was a convicted felon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49327 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/qtq80-PNCPHM-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/qtq80-PNCPHM-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/qtq80-PNCPHM-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/qtq80-PNCPHM-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/qtq80-PNCPHM-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/qtq80-PNCPHM-2048x1365.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> At the time of his arrest in March 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Herst\u2019s residence and found a loaded Glock 9mm pistol, which was one of multiple weapons stolen during a residential burglary that occurred in or around January 2020, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Herst also possessed 14 shotgun shells, 95 rounds of .38-caliber ammunition, more than 30 stolen debit and credit cards, multiple stolen or fake California driver\u2019s licenses, and a large quantity of stolen merchandise belonging to various burglary victims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAlthough many guns have not been recovered, those that have were largely found in the hands of felons or recovered at crime scenes,\u201d prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Elperin plead guilty in November 2020 to one count of conspiracy and one count of receiving stolen firearms. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">He is serving a 100-month federal prison sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">LaFraniere pleaded guilty in September 2020 to one count of conspiracy, one count of receiving stolen firearms and one count of selling firearms to a felon. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">His sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 26, at which time he will face up to 25 years in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv0315811978MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0 The FBI Eurasian Organized Crime Task Force and the Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Department investigated this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0LOS ANGELES\u00a0 A San Fernando Valley man was sentenced Wednesday to nine years seven months in federal prison for burglarizing self-storage units in Southern California, officials stated.
