{"id":49871,"date":"2022-05-24T13:45:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T20:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=49871"},"modified":"2022-05-24T13:45:00","modified_gmt":"2022-05-24T20:45:00","slug":"fbi-arrest-man-for-allegedly-stalking-a-professional-online-gamer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=49871","title":{"rendered":"FBI Arrest Man for Allegedly Stalking a Professional Online Gamer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7857 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/FBI-Logo-289x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/FBI-Logo-289x300.png 289w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/FBI-Logo.png 636w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 289px) 100vw, 289px\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>SANTA ANA, California\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">An Orange County man is expected to appear in federal court Tuesday after his arrest on a federal criminal complaint alleging that he stalked a professional online gamer, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Evan Baltierra, 29, of Trabuco Canyon, was arrested by FBI agents on Monday, and he is expected to make his initial appearance this afternoon in United States District Court in Santa Ana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to an affidavit filed with the complaint, since July 2020, Baltierra has allegedly orchestrated a campaign of harassment targeting the victim, her boyfriend, her friends, and her boyfriend\u2019s family. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The victim, a resident of Canada, is a prominent professional gamer in the community of \u201cWorld of Warcraft,\u201d a long-running and popular multiplayer online role-playing game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/photo-by-fredrick-tendong\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-49874\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49874 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/hvyepjyehdq-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"man playing on laptop\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/hvyepjyehdq-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/hvyepjyehdq-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/hvyepjyehdq-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/hvyepjyehdq-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/hvyepjyehdq.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 In November 2019, the victim traveled to Anaheim to attend \u201cBlizzcon,\u201d an annual gaming convention that focuses on several video game franchises, including \u201cWorld of Warcraft.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The victim met Baltierra in person at a meet-and-greet with her fans at the Anaheim Convention Center, according to the allegations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Following the convention, Baltierra allegedly asked the victim to be his \u201cvalentine.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In response, she politely told him she had a boyfriend. Baltierra then allegedly expressed a desire to visit the victim in Canada, an offer she declined.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6476 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/FBI-Cyber-Crime-300x161.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/FBI-Cyber-Crime-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/FBI-Cyber-Crime.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> After learning from an online friend in June 2020 that Baltierra was trying to find out where she lived because he wanted to visit her, the victim decided to remove Baltierra as moderator of her stream channel and block him from her social media.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Baltierra allegedly continued to contact the victim via direct message on various platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Reddit, and also via email. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">He allegedly contacted the victim\u2019s boyfriend and her colleague via the same online platforms. Many of these messages contained threats of violence toward the victim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-49809 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/40657-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/40657-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/40657-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/40657-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/40657-768x767.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/40657.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Baltierra also allegedly created fictitious online profiles that displayed photographs of the victim, including pornographic photographs where it appears that Baltierra photoshopped the victim\u2019s face onto the photograph.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"> He then sent the photoshopped pictures to the victim\u2019s friends and family, and regularly posted the photographed pictures on various internet chat rooms, the affidavit alleges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Despite obtaining a temporary restraining order against Baltierra in Orange County Superior Court in February 2021 and Baltierra signing an agreement in which he promised to end the harassment campaign, Baltierra allegedly continued to stalk the victim.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In March 2022, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Baltierra\u2019s residence and seized several items, including a thumb drive that contained many photoshopped nude images with the victim\u2019s face on them, and evidence on Baltierra\u2019s iPhone of email accounts with which he used to send the victim harassing messages, the affidavit states.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Baltierra is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Baltierra is charged with one count of stalking. If convicted, Baltierra faces up to five years in federal prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The FBI is investigating this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7573969675MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Assistant United States Attorney Jake D.
