\"brownA man who served more than two decades in state prison for a series of armed bank robberies in the 1990s was sentenced this morning to 19 years and seven months in federal prison for committing another 10 bank robberies across Southern California, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The string of robberies started only four months after he was released from custody for his prior robbery spree.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

U.S.District Judge Stanley Blumenfeld Jr. sentenced\u00a0<\/span>Todd Eugene Cannady, 61, who was living in Palm Springs at the time of his arrest last year, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

During today\u2019s hearing, Judge Blumenfeld said it is \u201chard to imagine crimes that are more serious. The court has seen them, but this ranks in the higher order of seriousness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \"\"Cannady pleaded guilty in October 2021 to one count of armed bank robbery and one count of using a firearm during a crime of violence. <\/span><\/p>\n

These offenses relate to the July 1, 2021 robbery of a Chase Bank branch in Riverside in which Cannady used a 9mm \u201cghost gun\u201d to threaten employees and force them to open teller drawers, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to federal prosecutors, Cannady was arrested soon after this incident by deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff\u2019s Department, but not before he fled in a rented car, hit several vehicles during a high-speed chase, and crashed on Interstate 215.<\/span><\/p>\n

When he pleaded guilty, Cannady admitted committing another nine bank robberies between July 2018 and March 2021 in Manhattan Beach, Century City, Rancho Mirage, Torrance, Banning and Carson. <\/span><\/p>\n

Cannady netted $757,763 during the 10 robberies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cannady twice robbed the same Wells Fargo Bank branch in Rancho Mirage \u2013 once in June 2019 and again in January 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \"\"\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cTodd Eugene Cannady is a serial armed bank robber,\u201d prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum filed with the court. \u201cFrom 1982 to 2021, [Cannady] committed armed robberies of individuals or banks whenever he was not incarcerated. He did so at great economic expense to individuals and institutions and great emotional expense to the tens of victims he traumatized in each robbery and at each bank. In spite of this trauma, [Cannady] seemingly took great joy in his crimes, yelling\u2026\u2018John Dillinger lives!\u2019 during a 2019 armed bank robbery.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The FBI and the Riverside County Sheriff\u2019s Department investigated this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n
