{"id":50922,"date":"2022-09-27T13:55:20","date_gmt":"2022-09-27T20:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=50922"},"modified":"2022-09-27T13:56:08","modified_gmt":"2022-09-27T20:56:08","slug":"305-dogs-rescued-more-than-20-arrest-in-largest-dog-fighting-operation-in-south-carolinare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=50922","title":{"rendered":"305 Dogs Rescued, More Than 20 Arrest in Largest  Dog-Fighting Operation in South Carolina"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><b>COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Over the weekend, a team of more than 60 federal and state law enforcement officers executed nearly two dozen warrants for various properties in the Midlands area in what is believed to be the biggest takedown of a dogfighting operation in South Carolina history.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SYZJYwLgX2o\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">On Saturday, officers with the operation interrupted a scheduled dogfighting match in Richland County, according to authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The following morning, the officers executed 23 search warrants at various residences and properties in Richland, York, Orangeburg, Clarendon, Lee, and Sumter Counties that were known dogfighting kennels or associated with dogfighting. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">In total 305 dogs were rescued this weekend, with 275 believed to be associated with dogfighting.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bfTNBGLeA2U\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"> The Humane Society of the United States and Bark Nation supported the operation by assisting with animal handling and are currently assisting with the care of the animals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">During the weekend operation, officers seized approximately 30 firearms, $40,000 in cash, and various evidence related to dogfighting. More than 20 individuals were arrested for state charges relating to animal cruelty and dogfighting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cTo force dogs to fight, often to the death, for the enjoyment of others is not only a federal crime, it is also cruel, sadistic, and can create a haven for other illicit activities involving drugs and firearms,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Adair F. Boroughs. \u201cThis joint operation, which has been months in the making, makes clear that dogfighting operations will find no refuge here in South Carolina.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cThe depravity involved in carrying out a dogfighting conspiracy is unimaginable to most people, and those involved in such a crime must be rooted out and punished,\u201d said Governor Henry McMaster, who started a dogfighting task force as Attorney General.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The Animal Welfare Act makes it a felony punishable by up to five years in federal prison to fight dogs or to possess, train, sell, buy, deliver, receive, or transport dogs intended for dogfighting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">This is the first step in a continuing investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s Office of Inspector General and SLED. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Images and media from the operation are available\u00a0<a
