The victim sustained injuries to his face and legs, including a laceration to the inside of his mouth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cActs of violence against anyone because of their race or ethnicity are abhorrent,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Roger B. Onks for the FBI Jacksonville Field Division. \u201cBecause of their wide-ranging impact, investigating and preventing hate crimes is a top priority for the FBI and we will stop at nothing to protect the public from these heinous crimes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">A sentencing hearing has not yet been set. Lashley faces up to 10 years in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Lashley was charged in an indictment that was unsealed on June 17. The indictment charged Lashley and co-defendant Roy Lamar Lashley, each aiding and abetting one another, with willfully causing bodily injury to the victim because of the victim\u2019s race.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The case against the co-defendant Roy Lashley remains ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Assistant Attorney General Clarke, U.S. Attorney Handberg and Special Agent in Charge Onks made the announcement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The FBI and the Citrus County Sheriff\u2019s Office investigated the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"> Trial Attorneys Maura White and Matthew Tannenbaum of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney William Hamilton of the Middle District of Florida prosecuted the case.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Federal officials stated that Robert Lashley, 52, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a federal hate crime for attacking a Black man.
