\"\"Officials stated that a local, self-identified \u201cincel\u201d pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Ohio on Tuesday to attempting to conduct a mass shooting of women.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tres Genco, 22, of Hillsboro, Ohio, admitted he plotted to commit a hate crime, namely, a plan to shoot women at Ohio State University.<\/span><\/p>\n

He was arrested by federal agents in July 2021 and has remained in custody since.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGenco formulated a plot to kill women and intended to carry it out. Our federal and local law enforcement partners stopped that from happening,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker for the Southern District of Ohio. \u201cHate has no place in our country \u2013 including gender-based hate \u2013 and we will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to vigorously prosecute any such conduct.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThankfully, law enforcement partners working closely together prevented a deadly killing spree targeting women,\u201d said Special Agent in Charge J. William Rivers for the FBI Cincinnati Field Division. \u201cGenco\u2019s hate-filled beliefs and actions were extremely dangerous and could have resulted in irreparable harm to our community and many precious lives. We urge the public to report concerning behavior to the FBI and local police to help prevent future violence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Genco described himself as an \u201cincel\u201d or \u201cinvoluntary celibate.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"The incel movement is an online community of predominantly men who harbor anger towards women.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to court documents, Genco maintained profiles on a popular incel website from at least July 2019 through mid-March 2020 and posted hundreds of times on the site.<\/span><\/p>\n

In one post, Genco detailed spraying \u201csome foids and couples\u201d with orange juice in a water gun. \u201cFoids\u201d is an incel term short for \u201cfemoids,\u201d referring to women. <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Genco compared his \u201cextremely empowering action\u201d to similar conduct by known incel Elliot Rodger. <\/span><\/p>\n

In May 2014, Rodger killed six people and injured 14 others, including shooting individuals outside a University of California, Santa Barbara sorority house. Prior to his mass attack, Rodger shot a group of college students with orange juice from a water gun.<\/span><\/p>\n

Genco also wrote a manifesto, stating he would \u201cslaughter\u201d women \u201cout of hatred, jealousy and revenge\u2026\u201d and referring to death as the \u201cgreat equalizer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"As part of this investigation, law enforcement agents discovered a note of Genco\u2019s that indicated he hoped to \u201caim big\u201d for a kill count of 3,000 people with reference to the same date as Elliot Rodger\u2019s attack and intended to attend military training. The investigation revealed that the day he wrote his manifesto, he searched online for sororities and a university in Ohio.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2019, Genco purchased tactical gloves, a bulletproof vest, a hoodie bearing the word \u201cRevenge,\u201d cargo pants, a bowie knife, a skull facemask, two Glock 17 magazines, a 9mm Glock 17 clip and a holster clip concealed carry for a Glock.<\/span><\/p>\n

Genco attended Army Basic Training in Georgia from August through December 2019. He was discharged for entry-level performance and conduct.<\/span><\/p>\n

In January 2020, Genco wrote a document entitled \u201cisolated\u201d that he described as \u201cthe writings of the deluded and homicidal.\u201d Genco signed the document, \u201cYour hopeful friend and murderer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Genco\u2019s court documents detail that he conducted surveillance at an Ohio university on Jan. 15, 2020. That same day, he searched online for topics including \u201cplanning a shooting crime\u201d and \u201cwhen does preparing for a crime become an attempt?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Cincinnati Inquirer, Genco was arrested March 12, 2020 after his mother called authorities. Documents say that Genco had locked himself in the bedroom of his Highland County home with a gun. His mother told investigators that Genco had become \u201cerratic and violent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Deputies surrounded the home, and Genco was arrested without incident.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the residence, in the trunk of Genco\u2019s vehicle, police officers found, among other things, a firearm with a bump stock attached, several loaded magazines, body armor and boxes of ammunition. <\/span><\/p>\n

Inside the residence, police officers found a modified Glock-style 9mm semiautomatic pistol, with no manufacturer\u2019s marks or serial number, hidden in a heating vent in Genco\u2019s bedroom. <\/span><\/p>\n

As part of his plea, Genco admitted that he possessed both firearms in furtherance of his plot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Genco pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to commit a hate crime, which, because it involved an attempt to kill, is punishable by up to life in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n
