former undersheriff of the Le Flore County Sheriff\u2019s Department (LCSO) in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, plead guilty to a criminal, civil rights violation for using unlawful force on an arrestee.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">According to court documents, on Jan. 25, 2017, while acting as LCSO\u2019s undersheriff, Morgan assaulted an individual identified as D.P. by repeatedly striking D.P. while D.P. was in handcuffed and not resisting arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/37gs-e9r0DE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"> The assault deprived D.P. of his right to be free from unreasonable force, did not further a legitimate law enforcement purpose, and being held accountable for unlawfully injuring a handcuffed man who was not resisting arrest and unable to defend himself,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division. \u201cThe Justice Department is committed to prosecuting any officer who violates their position and authority by using excessive force without 100vw, 200px\" \/>\u201cEvery citizen is entitled to be treated fairly, and law enforcement officers should be models of this very important principle,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Christopher Wilson for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. \u201cThe defendant\u2019s actions, in this case, were illegal, immoral and unethical, and justice demands he face the consequences for his acts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cMr. Morgan\u2019s actions not only violated the civil rights of his victim, but compromised the public\u2019s trust in the law enforcement system,\u201d said Special Agent in Charge Edward J. Gray of the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office. \u201cThe FBI is committed to holding those who abuse their authority accountable and safeguarding the civil liberties of all Americans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Morgan faces\u00a0 10 years in prison if convicted of the charges. A sentencing hearing has not yet been set.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The FBI Oklahoma City Field Office investigated the case. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarrod Leaman for the Eastern District of Oklahoma and Trial Attorney Avner Shapiro of the
