{"id":51756,"date":"2023-01-03T14:38:36","date_gmt":"2023-01-03T22:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=51756"},"modified":"2023-01-03T14:38:36","modified_gmt":"2023-01-03T22:38:36","slug":"63-year-old-wisconsin-man-guilty-in-mass-shooting-on-nyc-subway-attempted-to-kill-dozens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=51756","title":{"rendered":"63-Year-Old Wisconsin Man Guilty in Mass Shooting on NYC Subway, Attempted to Kill Dozens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><strong>NEW YORK CITY<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Frank James, 63, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, plead guilty Tuesday to 10 counts of committing a terrorist attack during rush hour in an NYC subway this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">James plead guilty to\u00a0one count for each gunshot victim \u2013 and one count of discharging a firearm in furtherance of his attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"> The incident occurred during rush hour on April 12, 2022, on the New York City subway in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3JZ01JFOX3c\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(News report\u00a0 April 2020)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">According to court documents, James used a Glock 17 pistol he legally purchased in Ohio to conduct a mass shooting on a subway train in Brooklyn, New York. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">As part of his attack, James \u2013 disguised in an orange reflective jacket and yellow hard hat to look like a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) employee \u2013 set off a smoke-emitting device in a subway car before opening fire on his captive victims. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-y_A4qBRJHo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>(News report 2020)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The smoke-emitting device caused panicked passengers to scramble to one end of the subway car, allowing James to shoot at his victims, according to the evidence easily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">In total, ten victims were struck by the defendant\u2019s bullets. Even more, passengers suffered from smoke inhalation and other mental and physical injuries due to the defendant\u2019s attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cOn the morning of April 12, 2022, Frank James cold-bloodedly shot innocent New Yorkers traveling on the subway in Brooklyn and brought terror to our great city. James\u2019s crimes of violence have been met with swift justice,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace for the Eastern District of New York. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Adding, \u201cJames\u2019s admission of guilt to all eleven counts of the superseding indictment acknowledges the terror and pain he caused. This guilty plea is an important step towards holding James fully accountable and helping the victims of the defendant\u2019s violence and our great city heal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The investigation reflects that the attack was the culmination of substantial planning. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Beginning as early as 2017, James began purchasing items he could use in an attack, including smoke grenades, ammunition, weapons, and his disguise. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">In the months leading up to his attack, James conducted web searches for \u201cMTA,\u201d \u201cNew York,\u201d \u201ctransit,\u201d \u201cstops on the N train,\u201d and \u201c311 kings highway brooklyn ny,\u201d which is near where James parked his rented U-Haul van before entering the subway, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"> The defendant also recorded and posted videos online foreshadowing his plans, including stating that \u201cif you hear the name Frank James on the news, if something happens to a Frank James that\u2019s sixty-something years old, chances are that\u2019s me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Following James\u2019s attack, law enforcement officers searched James\u2019s apartment and storage unit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">They uncovered a stockpile of weapons, including, among other items, 9mm ammunition, a threaded 9mm pistol barrel, which allows for a silencer or suppresser to be attached; .223 caliber ammunition, which is used with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle; a taser; a high-capacity rifle magazine; and a blue smoke canister.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">James is facing up to life in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The FBI\u2019s New York Joint Terrorism Task Force, which principally consists of agents from the FBI and detectives from the NYPD, are investigating the case. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ian C. Richardson, Sara K. Winik, and Ellen H.
