Still, even after the victim\u2019s husband moved away from home, the defendants kept the victim in their Virginia home to serve the extended family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6759 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-90x60.jpg 90w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cThese defendants callously exploited the victim\u2019s vulnerabilities and brutally coerced her labor through physical violence and emotional abuse,\u201d said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division. \u201cHuman trafficking is an affront to human rights and to our nation\u2019s core values. The Department of Justice is committed to vindicating the rights of survivors and bringing human traffickers to justice.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cHuman trafficking is a global issue that cannot be tackled alone,\u201d said Assistant Director Luis Quesada of the FBI\u2019s Criminal Investigative Division. \u201cThe FBI will remain committed to investigating all forms of human trafficking and work with our law enforcement partners in combatting the problem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-229 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI-300x165.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"385\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/FBI.png 615w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px\" \/>According to the evidence presented in court, the defendants made the victim serve the family as a domestic servant, using physical and verbal abuse, restricting communication with her family in Pakistan, confiscating her immigration documentation and money, and eventually threatening to separate her from her children by deporting her to Pakistan. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">According to officials, the defendants slapped, kicked, and pushed the victim, even beat her with a wooden board, and on one occasion, hog-tied her hands and feet and dragged her down the stairs in front of her children. All of these coercive means were employed by the defendants to compel the victim\u2019s labor in their home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The evidence further showed that the defendants required the victim to work every day, beginning early each morning. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">They restricted her food, forbade her from learning to drive or speaking to anyone except the defendants\u2019 family members, and prohibited her from calling her family in Pakistan, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stephen Miller, Shea Gibbons and Heather Mansfield for the Eastern District of Virginia and Trial Attorney Leah Branch of the Civil Rights Division\u2019s Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit prosecuted the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A federal court in Richmond, Virginia, sentenced three defendants Thursday for conspiracy to commit forced labor of a Pakistani woman for 12 years.
