\"\"Two members of a $2.1 million Riverside County-based, family-run telemarketing scam each were sentenced in absentia Monday<\/span><\/p>\n

The two were sentenced to nine years in federal prison for their roles in a scheme that defrauded more than 4,000 job seekers by tricking them into paying fees in exchange for employment opportunities that turned out to be nonexistent.<\/span><\/p>\n

U.S.District Judge Stephen V. Wilson sentenced Lisa Kay Camp, 61, and Barry Lee Biddle, 48, both formerly of Lake Elsinore.<\/span><\/p>\n

Judge Wilson also ordered them to pay $2.1 million as restitution to their victims, which they must pay jointly and severally with three previously sentenced co-conspirators.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Camp and Biddle pleaded guilty in September 2019 and October 2019, respectively, to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. <\/span><\/p>\n

They fled together from pretrial supervision in August 2020 before their sentencing hearings, which were scheduled for October 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n

They remain at large.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 From May 2009 to July 2013, officials stated Camp, with the help of Biddle and her adult children, operated a fraudulent telemarketing business.<\/span><\/p>\n

The business went by various fictitious names, including \u201cContractor Management,\u201d \u201cCommercial Crews,\u201d \u201cUS Tradepros,\u201d and \u201cIPower Marketing,\u201d according to authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The defendants used auto-dialer services and multiple websites to lure prospective job seekers to pay for background checks that were never performed and to receive job leads that never existed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Camp controlled nearly two dozen bank accounts in various company names through which she projected the appearance of legitimacy and the co-schemers received money from victims. <\/span><\/p>\n

Biddle set up, maintained, and operated the fraudulent telemarketing business’s computer workstations, phone networks, and websites, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

The aggregated loss to job seekers over the four-year period of the scheme was approximately $2,181,316 with at least 4,183 victims defrauded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three other defendants \u2013 all of whom are children of Camp \u2013 have been sentenced in this case after each pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Andrea Maureen Aviles, 41, of Lake Elsinore, who was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Gerald James Camp, 42, of Lake Elsinore, who was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison; and<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Allisa Lynn Vasquez, 39, of Sun City, who was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The FBI investigated this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assistant U.S. Attorney Julius J. Nam of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section is prosecuting this case.<\/span><\/p>\n
