The behavior is even more confounding since this happened in an area designated as a zone where school children were present,\u201d District Attorney Gasc\u00f3n said. \u201cTragically, a 12-year-old boy was killed in the space where he should have been most safe. His family and classmates are left to try to make sense of such a preventable tragedy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MNndv2PeVno\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\u201cThis investigation required a tremendous amount of patience and expertise to ensure that we had all of the factual information and evidence aligned before presenting our case to the District Attorney\u2019s Office,\u201d said South Gate Police Chief Darren Arakawa. \u201cIt seems commonplace in Los Angeles County to see some motorist driving recklessly and at freeway speeds on residential and business streets. The outcome of these driving habits of some sadly have irreparable consequences.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Castro, 28, was charged with one count each of murder, vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing great bodily injury, according to authorities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">On Nov. 3, 2021, at about 3:55 p.m., Castro was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed on Firestone Boulevard in South Gate when he collided with another vehicle whose driver was making a left-hand turn. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The speed limit on the street is typically 35 mph but is reduced to 25 mph when school children are present.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The driver suffered serious injuries, and her 12-year-old brother, Isaiah R., was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">Castro and his passenger also were injured in the crash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">The case remains under investigation by the South Gate Police Department.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Los Angeles County Sheriff\u2019s Deputy Ricardo Castro has been charged with murder and vehicular manslaughter when he crashed his vehicle into another car, killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring two others in&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":15639,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-52188","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-u-s-department-of-justice"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>L.A.
