O\u2019Connell at home in Hacienda Heights over the weekend, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 20px;\">\u201cThis was a brutal act of violence against a person who dedicated his life to making our neighborhoods safer, healthier, and always serving with love and compassion,\u201d District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n said. \u201cAs Catholics around Los Angeles and the nation start the holy season of Lent, let us reflect on Bishop O\u2019Connell\u2019s life of service and dedication to those in greatest need of our care. Charging Mr. Medina will never repair the tremendous harm that was caused by this callous act, but it does take us one step closer to accountability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/b7pBpMc_LeY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 20px;\">Medina, 61, was charged with one count of murder and a special allegation that he used a firearm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 20px;\">On February 18, O\u2019Connell was found fatally shot at home in the 1500 block of Janlu Avenue in Hacienda Heights. The 69-year-old victim died at the scene.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: 20px;\">Medina is the husband of O\u2019Connell\u2019s housekeeper.
