{"id":52524,"date":"2023-03-17T14:42:16","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T21:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=52524"},"modified":"2023-03-17T14:42:16","modified_gmt":"2023-03-17T21:42:16","slug":"former-dept-of-state-employee-sentenced-for-having-sexual-conduct-with-filipino-minors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=52524","title":{"rendered":"Former Dept. of State Employee Sentenced for Having Sexual Conduct with Filipino Minors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5906 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice.jpg 200w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/U.S.-Department-of-Justice-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/span>A former U.S. Department of State employee was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for engaging in sexual conduct with Filipino minors, according to officials.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-pr-body field--type-text-long field--label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item even\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court documents, Dean Edward Cheves, 63, served at the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines from 2017 to 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">From December 2020 to March 2021, Cheves used a messaging application installed on his cell phone to chat with a 15- to 16-year-old Philippine minor, whom he paid to create and send to him sexually explicit images of the minor. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14523 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Courtroom-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/>Additionally, in February 2021, Cheves engaged in sex acts on two separate occasions with another 16-year-old Philippine minor whom he met online. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Cheves used his government-issued cell phone to film the sex acts on at least one of those occasions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The child sex abuse material that Cheves produced was found on the phone after it was seized from Cheves\u2019 embassy residence in the Philippines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Cheves knew the ages of both minors at the time he engaged in the conduct.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Trial Attorney Gwendelynn Bills of the Criminal Division\u2019s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren Pomerantz Halper and Zoe Bedell for the Eastern District of Virginia prosecuted the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former U.S. Department of State employee was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for engaging in sexual conduct with Filipino minors, according to officials.
