{"id":52713,"date":"2023-04-05T17:37:20","date_gmt":"2023-04-06T00:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=52713"},"modified":"2023-04-05T17:40:14","modified_gmt":"2023-04-06T00:40:14","slug":"pharmacist-guilty-in-billing-medicare-for-drugs-never-dispense-to-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=52713","title":{"rendered":"Pharmacist Guilty in Billing Medicare for Drugs Never Dispense to Patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\"><strong>WASHINGTON D.C.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">A California man pleaded guilty Wednesday to submitting fraudulent claims to Medicare for prescription drugs never dispensed to patients, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">According to court documents, Paul Mansour, 55, of Sierra Madre, was a pharmacist at a Sierra M<a href=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52714 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"a pile of pills sitting next to each other on top of a table\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk-1536x1015.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/rs0-h_pybyk.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>adre-based pharmacy, Mansour Partners Inc., doing business as Best Buy Drugs, which he also co-owned. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Mansour created fake patient profiles in the pharmacy\u2019s digital filing system and added fraudulent prescription medication entries to these fictitious patient files that duplicated medication prescriptions provided to pharmacy patients. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Mansour then submitted false and fraudulent claims for the drugs added in the fictitious patient files that had never been dispensed, billing Medicare for the fraudulent prescriptions in the names of real pharmacy patients. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52124 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/thumbnail-1-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/thumbnail-1-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/thumbnail-1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/thumbnail-1.png 306w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Between January 2017 and June 2022, Mansour caused Medicare to pay the pharmacy between approximately $600,000 and over $1 million due to the submission of false and fraudulent claims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Mansour pleaded guilty to one count of healthcare fraud, officials stated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Mansour is scheduled to be sentenced on June 28.\u00a0 He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">The FBI Los Angeles Field Office and HHS-OIG investigated the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Trial Attorney Helen H. Lee of the Criminal Division\u2019s Fraud Section is prosecuting the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">The Fraud Section leads the Criminal Division\u2019s efforts to combat health care fraud through the Health Care Fraud Strike Force Program. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica;\">Since March 2007, this program, comprised of 15 strike forces operating in 25 federal districts, has charged more than 5,000 defendants who collectively have billed federal health care programs and private insurers more than $24 billion.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON D.C.
