font-family: helvetica;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mykara Destiny Robinson, 24, of Los Angeles, charged under the incorrect name of \u201cMykara Destiny Robertson,\u201d pleaded guilty today to one count of bank fraud.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Robinson is the 13th and final defendant to plead guilty in this case, whose lead defendants are Natalie Le Demola, 38, originally of Corona, is serving a life prison sentence after she was convicted in 2005 of first-degree murder, and Carleisha Neosha Plummer, 33, of Los Angeles, was a close prison associate of Demola\u2019s until her parole in July 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">The case\u2019s other defendants are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Khanshanda Eugenea King, 32, of Los Angeles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Donisha Lashawn Pace, 39, of South Los Angeles<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Dominique Charmone Martin, 38, of Yucaipa<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Amber Jane Wade, 35 of Palmdale.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6759 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-90x60.jpg 90w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> Demola, Plummer, and other co-conspirators \u201cwould acquire the personal identifying information (PII), such as the names, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, of individuals, including identity theft victims, who were not eligible for UI benefits, including pandemic benefits, because they were employed, retired, or incarcerated,\u201d according to a 39-count\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-cdca\/pr\/woman-serving-life-prison-sentence-allegedly-led-ring-used-stolen-identities-apply#:~:text=LOS%20ANGELES%20%E2%80%93%20Federal%20authorities%20today,belonged%20to%20California%20prison%20inmates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">indictment returned in May 2022<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-39979 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/judge-gavel-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/>Members of the conspiracy then used the information to make fraudulent online applications for UI benefits from the California Employment Development Department (EDD). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Once the applications were approved, members of the conspiracy received EDD-funded debit cards that allowed them to withdraw money from ATMs across Southern California.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14523 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Courtroom-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/>According to Robinson\u2019s plea agreement, the conspiracy began in June 2020 and Robinson joined it two months later. Robinson and other members of the conspiracy assumed the identities of California prison inmates and used EDD debit cards issued in their names to make fraudulent cash withdrawals of UI benefits, including pandemic benefits, from Bank of America ATMs in Los Angeles County.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">As to Robinson specifically, from August 2020 to October 2020, Robinson and her co-conspirators used 10 debit cards to withdraw about $68,742 in fraudulently obtained EDD funds from ATMs in Southern California. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">But, during the scheme, Robinson and other co-conspirators withdrew at least $993,181 in EDD funds from approximately 151 fraudulent accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">United States District Judge John F. Walter scheduled a July 3 sentencing hearing for Robinson, at which time she will face a statutory maximum sentence of 30 years in federal prison.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Demola pleaded guilty on March 7 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, three counts of bank fraud, and one count of aggravated identity theft. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">She faces up to 30 years on the conspiracy and bank fraud counts, and a mandatory two-year consecutive sentence for the aggravated identity theft count. A sentencing hearing is set for July 10.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Plummer pleaded guilty on April 17 to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, and one count of aggravated identity theft. She faces up to 32 years in federal prison at her July 14 sentencing hearing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">The other defendants have plead guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and bank fraud, bank fraud, and\/or aggravated identity theft based on their respective roles within the scheme. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">Most defendants face up to 30 years in federal prison.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">The investigation into this scheme was conducted by the Los Angeles El Camino Real Financial Crimes Task Force, a multi-agency task force led by Homeland Security Investigations that includes federal and state investigators focused on financial crimes in Southern California.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv6519248515MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: helvetica;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assistant U.S. Attorney David C.
