Wade<\/i>\u00a0decision.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Nishith Tharaka Vandebona, 34, of Oxnard, but who lived in Camarillo during the offenses, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of threatened forcible intimidation regarding the obtaining and provision of reproductive health services under the federal Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">He also pleaded guilty to one felony count of transmitting threatening communications in interstate commerce.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2371 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Santa-Barbara-Sheriffs-Department-300x202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Santa-Barbara-Sheriffs-Department-300x202.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Santa-Barbara-Sheriffs-Department-90x60.png 90w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Santa-Barbara-Sheriffs-Department-180x120.png 180w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Santa-Barbara-Sheriffs-Department-95x64.png 95w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Santa-Barbara-Sheriffs-Department.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u00a0 At Monday\u2019s hearing, U.S. Judge R. Gary Klausner ordered Vandebona remanded into federal custody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to his plea agreement, in February and June of 2022, Vandebona used an internet application to create anonymous telephone numbers to make threatening calls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 During the spring of 2022, there was news coverage that the Supreme Court was considering overturning\u00a0<i>Roe<\/i>, its 1973 decision that recognized a constitutional right to abortion, after an initial draft of the new opinion was leaked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court published a decision in\u00a0<i>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/i>, overturning Roe and ruling\u00a0that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2775 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Ventura-County-Patch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Ventura-County-Patch.jpg 250w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/Ventura-County-Patch-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/> Vandebona admitted in his plea agreement that on the same day, using an anonymous number, he left a voicemail message containing death threats with Planned Parenthood California Central Coast, a Santa Barbara-based reproductive health services organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 On June 25, 2022, Vandebona called Planned Parenthood Los Angeles and spoke with a call center specialist. Vandebona said, \u201cI\u2019m calling to let you know that I\u2019m going to come in there and kill all of you, including your staff and your security. You got it? You\u2019re overdue for an attack.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Within an hour, Vandebona telephoned Planned Parenthood Los Angeles again and made several death threats, including \u201cI\u2019m gonna come in there and murder your staff.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Before the threats to the Planned Parenthood facilities, Vandebona called in a bomb threat in February 2022 to the Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6759 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-90x60.jpg 90w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>This Ventura-based non-profit organization advocates for \u201czero population growth,\u201d primarily through immigration restrictions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Vandebona admitted to using anonymous numbers he obtained from the internet to make threatening phone calls to CAPS. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In one of the calls, he said, \u201cI\u2019m gonna come in there and kill all of you, dude. Be careful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In another call to CAPS in February 2022, Vandebona said, \u201cI\u2019m gonna come in there, plant a bomb, and kill as many white Americans as possible. You understand that? Servicemen, families, everybody.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Judge Klausner scheduled an October 2 sentencing hearing, at which time Vandebona will face a statutory maximum sentence of one year in federal prison for the FACE Act count and up to five years in federal prison for the transmitting threatening communications in interstate commerce count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The FBI investigated this matter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The Santa Barbara Police Department, the Santa Monica Police Department, and the Ventura County Sheriff\u2019s Office have assisted in this investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4367619137MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assistant U.S. Attorneys Frances S. Lewis and Julius J.
