Snyder, who scheduled a September 6 restitution hearing in this case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 After a six-day trial in September 2022, a jury found Quintero guilty of one count of distributing fentanyl resulting in death, one count of possessing machine guns, two counts of possessing unregistered firearms, one count of maintaining drug-involved premises, and one count of possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5414 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/U.S.-Department-of-Homeland-Security-300x184.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"184\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/U.S.-Department-of-Homeland-Security-300x184.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/U.S.-Department-of-Homeland-Security.jpg 584w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>\u201cQuintero operated a reckless and callous drug trafficking business that repeatedly endangered people\u2019s lives and ultimately killed [the victim],\u201d prosecutors argued in a sentencing memorandum. \u201cFor at least a year, [Quintero] shipped kilos of cocaine and pounds of methamphetamine out of state, and sold poor-quality, adulterated drugs to unsuspecting buyers, all while guarding his drug-distribution outpost in Long Beach with machine guns and short-barreled rifles.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to evidence presented at trial, beginning no later than February 2018, Quintero \u2013 who was employed as an emergency medical technician at a Long Beach hospital \u2013 shipped cocaine, methamphetamine, and other drugs across the country. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He distributed them locally out of a Long Beach residence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1867 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ATF-BADGE-217x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ATF-BADGE-217x300.png 217w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/ATF-BADGE.png 429w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 217px) 100vw, 217px\" \/> In May 2019, in the parking lot outside the hospital\u2019s emergency room, Quintero sold a white powder he claimed was cocaine for $100 to a hospital coworker who was planning to go on a weekend trip to Las Vegas with her partner, a former nurse at the Long Beach hospital and volunteer firefighter. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The following morning, the couple sampled the white powder \u2013 not knowing that it in fact was fentanyl \u2013 and both of them passed out. One of the victims \u2013 identified in court documents as \u201cS.F.\u201d \u2013 later was pronounced dead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Two toxicologists testified that the only drug they found in S.F.\u2019s blood was fentanyl, and two doctors \u2013 a medical examiner and a medical toxicologist \u2013 testified that the victim died because of fentanyl toxicity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After learning that Quintero sold the fatal dose, law enforcement searched two residences in Long Beach and discovered Quintero\u2019s illicit drug-trafficking operation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3590 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Long-Beach-Police.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Long-Beach-Police.jpg 250w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Long-Beach-Police-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Across both residences, they found 13 firearms that included two machine guns, two short-barreled assault rifles, and nine other guns, some of which were loaded. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One of the residences, which Quintero used as his base of operations, was littered with drug-trafficking paraphernalia, including over ten pounds of cutting agents used to dilute the quality of the drugs he sold and a hydraulic press used to manufacture kilogram bricks of cocaine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 According to trial testimony, Quintero also shipped kilogram-quantities of cocaine and pound quantities of methamphetamine to drug traffickers in Minnesota, prompting frequent complaints about his product&#8217;s poor quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6759 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-300x197.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice-90x60.jpg 90w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Department-of-Justice.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Since his arrest shortly after the fatal overdose in May 2019, Quintero has been in custody.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Homeland Security Investigations; the Drug Enforcement Administration in Los Angeles and Minneapolis; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; and the Long Beach Police Department investigated this matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3240306176MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Assistant U.S. Attorneys Suria M.
