The rally was to raise awareness about the increase in hate crimes and hate incidents against members of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community both locally and nationally, including the murders of six Asian American women five days earlier in Atlanta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3918 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>A group of rally participants assembled at the intersection of Diamond Bar Boulevard and Grand Avenue, carrying American flags and large signs in support of their cause. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The demonstrators peacefully gathered and lawfully crossed the streets using the marked pedestrian crosswalk when they had the right of way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">During the rally, Dominguez was driving a black Honda Civic sedan and was stopped at a red light at the intersection. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dominguez yelled, \u201cGo back to China!\u201d and other racial slurs and profanities at the demonstrators. He then deliberately drove his car through the intersection\u2019s crosswalk at the red light, made an illegal U-turn into oncoming traffic, and cut off the route of several rally participants lawfully crossing the street, primarily women and a young child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">One of the victims was an Asian woman carrying a sign that read, \u201cStop Asian Hate.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Another victim was a minor Black female rally participant who carried a sign that read, \u201cEnd the Violence Against Asians.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Another person who was cut off in the crosswalk was a 9-year-old child, and Dominguez\u2019s car narrowly missed her and other victims. No injuries were reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dominguez then pulled his car over, got out of the car and continued to yell racial epithets \u2013 including the n-word \u2013 and threats at the demonstrators. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He then called the police, identified himself as \u201cJohn Doe\u201d and falsely reported to police that the rally participants were blocking the street. He had to run a red light \u201cbecause they were about to trample my car,\u201d according to evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">He also requested that police \u201cget some control out\u201d at the intersection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">U.S. District Judge Otis D. Wright II scheduled a May 6, 2024, sentencing hearing.\u00a0 Dominguez will face up to one year in prison, according to the terms of the plea agreement. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dominguez has remained free on a $30,000 bond since his initial arrest in May 2022 and will remain on bond until sentencing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The FBI investigated this matter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv3255550720MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Assistant U.S. Attorneys Frances S.
