The theft of items, potential family heirlooms, and sentimental pieces from the deceased not only violates this trust but desecrates the memory of a loved one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-54658 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/images-10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"194\" height=\"259\" \/>\u201cIt\u2019s a profound betrayal of the very essence of the role and the solemn duty owed to both the deceased and their bereaved families.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Odey Ukpo added: \u201cThe Department of Medical Examiner takes these allegations very seriously and is assisting law enforcement and the D.A.\u2019s Office in the ongoing investigation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Munoz is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On January 6, 2023, Mu\u00f1oz responded to a death investigation of a warehouse worker who died of a heart attack at his job in South Los Angeles. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">According to surveillance footage, Mu\u00f1oz removed a gold crucifix necklace from the deceased man\u2019s neck and placed it in his medical bag. Mu\u00f1oz did not return the item or document it in the property receipt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">After a search of Mu\u00f1oz\u2019s desk cubicle, investigators discovered rare antique coins with a receipt in the name of a man discovered deceased on November 12, 2022. Mu\u00f1oz, employed by the Medical Examiner\u2019s Office since 2018, had handled the man\u2019s death investigation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The case is being prosecuted by LADA\u2019s Justice System Integrity Division and was investigated by the Los Angeles County
