Once inside the building, police observed a mason jar under a broken window; the jar was broken, and the lid and screw top were burned black. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52171 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GavelcourtroomFeb92023-300x214.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GavelcourtroomFeb92023-300x214.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GavelcourtroomFeb92023-1024x731.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GavelcourtroomFeb92023-768x548.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GavelcourtroomFeb92023-1536x1097.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/GavelcourtroomFeb92023.jpeg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The police also saw a purple disposable lighter near the mason jar. On the opposite wall from the window, the police saw another mason jar with the lid on and a blue cloth tucked into the top; the cloth was singed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The jar was about half full of a clear fluid that smelled like an accelerant. Outside of the building, someone spray painted on one wall, \u201cIf abortions aren\u2019t safe then you aren\u2019t either\u201d and, on another wall, a large \u201cA\u201d with a circle around it and the number \u201c1312.\u201d During the investigation, law enforcement collected DNA from the scene of the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In March 2023, law enforcement identified Roychowdhury as a possible suspect. Local police officers observed Roychowdhury dispose of food in a public trash can; the officers recovered the leftover food and related items, and law enforcement collected DNA from the food. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On March 17, law enforcement advised that a forensic biologist examine the DNA evidence recovered from the attack scene and compare it to the DNA collected from the food contents. The forensic biologist found the two samples matched and was likely the same individual.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">In March, Roychowdhury traveled from Madison to Portland, Maine, and he purchased a one-way ticket from Boston to Guatemala City, departing on March 28. Law enforcement arrested Roychowdhury at Boston Logan International Airport that day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Roychowdhury faces up to 20 years in prison. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 14.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2022 Madison firebombing; Wisconsin man arrested in Boston | FOX6 News Milwaukee\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cfC5wh8Hivc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The charge against Roychowdhury is the result of an investigation by the Madison Police Department, Wisconsin State Capitol Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the FBI\u2019s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations, and Dane County Sheriff\u2019s Office, with the assistance of the FBI Boston Field Office, Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Air Marshal Service, and Transportation Security Administration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 18px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman for the Western District of Wisconsin and Trial Attorney Justin Sher of the National Security Division\u2019s Counterterrorism Section are prosecuting the case. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Wisconsin man pleaded guilty today to the May 2022 firebombing of a Madison office building.
