{"id":55370,"date":"2024-01-28T17:29:23","date_gmt":"2024-01-29T01:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=55370"},"modified":"2024-01-28T17:30:11","modified_gmt":"2024-01-29T01:30:11","slug":"two-guilty-of-making-false-documents-by-creating-false-calibration-certificates-within-the-nuclear-regulatory-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/?p=55370","title":{"rendered":"Two Guilty of Making False Documents by Creating False Calibration Certificates within the Nuclear Regulatory Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">PENNSYLVANIA<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3918 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Department-of-Justice.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Miguel Marcial Amaro and Martin Ramos plead guilty last week to the felony offense of making and using a false document, officials stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Each defendant is banned from participation in or employment in Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) \u2014 licensed activities as a condition of their plea agreement\u2014Marcial Amaro for five years and Ramos for two years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">According to court documents, Marcial Amaro and Ramos both worked for a company that provided acoustic emissions (AE) testing to nuclear power plants to detect structural defects in the plant\u2019s equipment, including critical components within the nuclear reactors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Between 2010 and 2021, Marcial Amaro ensured that the company\u2019s AE testing equipment was calibrated annually; Ramos worked under Marcial Amaro as an engineer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The two men created numerous false calibration certificates for AE testing equipment, and 15 of these false certificates were sent a total of 29 times to nuclear plant owners as part of the final testing reports required by NRC. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The falsified calibration certificates were discovered in 2021 during an external audit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The NRC\u2019s Office of Investigation conducted the investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Senior Trial Attorney Daniel Dooher and Trial Attorney Rachel M. Roberts of ENRD\u2019s Environmental Crimes Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Joan E.
