transactions\u2014numerous low-value sham transactions\u2014against other bank accounts under their control or influence, ensuring these transactions would not be reversed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-39124 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/cropped-Courtroom-300x90.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"467\" height=\"140\" \/>These &#8220;micro debits&#8221; Harris of USPIS&#8217; LA Division. \u201cPostal Inspectors along with their law enforcement partners will tirelessly investigate these crimes, ensuring these criminals face the maximum penalties for their illegal activities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cWe formed the Maryland Financial Intelligence Task Force to identify financial fraudsters, whose actions impact victim-account holders here in Maryland and beyond,\u201d said U.S. Attorney Erek L. Courdy, et al.<\/em>\u00a0charging 14 defendants with RICO conspiracy and other charges in the Central District of California. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The indictment alleges that the defendants and associates debited consumer-victims\u2019 bank accounts without authorization and used shell entities and \u201cmicro debits\u201d to conceal the activity from banks. The \u201cInformation for Victims in Large Cases\u201d section on the Consumer Protection Branch\u2019s website contains additional information on\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/civil\/case\/united-states-v-edward-courdy-linden-fellerman-guy-benoit-steven-kennedy-sayyid-quadri\">United States v. Courdy, et al<\/a><\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">In December 2023, scheme participant Luis Ramirez\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/arizona-man-pleads-guilty-role-scheme-steal-money-us-bank-accounts\">pleaded<\/a>\u00a0guilty to conspiracy to commit access device fraud in federal court in San Diego, and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 22. A related scheme participant, Harold Sobel, pleaded guilty to bank fraud conspiracy in federal court in Las Vegas.
