He was deported to Mexico in April of 2020.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Less than a month after being deported, he was back in the drug trade when, in May of 2020, he and a codefendant discussed how the COVID-19 pandemic was slowing down the movement and sale of controlled substances.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The defendant stated the pandemic was causing the price of methamphetamine to increase, and he was heard saying he hoped the price of a kilogram of methamphetamine would go up, as it had once sold for $14,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">At Tuesday\u2019s sentencing hearing, prosecutors introduced evidence that showed that Rodriguez Arreola coordinated multiple deliveries of methamphetamine from Mexico into the United States on behalf of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The Cartel is one of Mexico\u2019s most violent and powerful drug cartels. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">During the hearing, Rodriguez Arreola was identified as a person who had access to the higher echelons of the CJNG because he associated with individuals who reported directly to the cartel\u2019s leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, a.k.a. <a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/2009-2017.state.gov\/j\/inl\/narc\/rewards\/249819.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-extlink=\"\">El Mencho<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Agent testimony revealed that the defendant served the CJNG as a broker of methamphetamine and that he had significant ties to Plaza Bosses, who had access to cartel leadership.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Rodriguez-Arreola\u2019s role included finding drivers and people who could transport and distribute methamphetamine, planning routes, confirming delivery, loss prevention, and finding locations to receive, store, and transfer methamphetamine shipments. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"align-center entity-type-media entity-bundle-image media--image--small entity-image-1349256\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div class=\"field__item img_wrp\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Rodriguez Arreola Government Sentencing Exhibit No. 2: Crystal Meth\" src=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/d9\/styles\/coh_small\/public\/2024-04\/cjngcrystalmeth.png?itok=h8rd8zAT\" alt=\"Rodriguez Arreola Government Sentencing Exhibit No. 2: Plastic baggies of crystal meth are weighed on a scale\" width=\"568\" height=\"360\" \/><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Tuesday\u2019s sentencing, evidence indicated that the defendant had access to counterintelligence information provided by the CJNG. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Rodriguez Arreola told a codefendant that they needed drivers who were U.S. residents to transport methamphetamine [loads] because no drivers with visas could make it through [the border crossings with their loads of methamphetamine].\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Other defendants sentenced include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Ricardo Hernandez Zarate, sentenced to 480 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and 240 months in prison for money laundering (concurrent sentences)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Pedro Hernandez Zarate, sentenced to 360 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Uriel Marin Gaona, sentenced to 120 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Benito Diaz Hernandez, sentenced to 210 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Marcos Garcia Reyes, sentenced to 87 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Heleodoro Rosales Ramirez, to distribute a controlled substance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Elmer Gardea Tello, sentenced to 55 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled (cocaine)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Walter Daniel Chapa Marty, sentenced to 121 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Salvador Antonio Martinez, sentenced to 151 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Throughout the investigation, law enforcement seized approximately 650 kilograms of methamphetamine drugs, 17 guns, $220,922 in U.S. currency, and $12,200 in real and personal
