The intention was to illegally obtain about $25 million in cryptocurrency in just under 12 seconds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Anton Peraire-Bueno and James Peraire-Bueno were apprehended yesterday in Boston and New York, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The IRS-CI New York\u2019s Cyber Investigations Unit led the investigation, with support from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the New York City Police Department.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201cAs alleged in today\u2019s indictment, the Peraire-Bueno brothers stole $25 million in Ethereum cryptocurrency through a technologically sophisticated, cutting-edge scheme they plotted for months and executed in seconds,\u201d said Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco. \u201cUnfortunately for the defendants, their alleged crimes were no match for Department of Justice prosecutors and IRS agents, who unraveled this first-of-its-kind wire fraud and money laundering scheme.
