Chrismas, 80, of the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles, was convicted of three counts of embezzlement against a bankruptcy estate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Chrismas served as the president and CEO of Art and Architecture Books of the 21st Century, which operated as Ace Gallery and had offices in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-595 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/FBI-IMAGE-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"FBI Photo\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/FBI-IMAGE-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/FBI-IMAGE-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/FBI-IMAGE-1024x1021.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>During a four-day trial, evidence showed that in February 2013, Ace Gallery filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy petition in Los Angeles and continued operations under Chrismas&#8217;s fiduciary control until April 2016. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">At that time, the bankruptcy court appointed an independent trustee to oversee Ace Gallery&#8217;s bankruptcy estate, removing Chrismas from his position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Between late March and early April of 2016, Chrismas embezzled approximately $264,595 from the Ace Gallery bankruptcy estate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">This included a $50,000 check signed by Chrismas, drawn from the estate, and paid to Ace Museum, a separate non-profit corporation he owned and controlled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Chrismas also misappropriated $100,000 owed to Ace Gallery by a third party for the purchase of artwork, redirecting the funds to Ace Museum. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-56446 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-1536x1024.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-2048x1365.jpeg 2048w, https:\/\/cjnotebook.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/qtq80-3AgEQK-850x567.jpeg 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Additionally, he embezzled about $114,595 that a different third party owed the gallery for artwork and gave it to the landlord of Ace Museum to pay its $225,000 monthly rent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">U.S. District Judge Mark C. Scarsi scheduled a sentencing hearing for Sept.9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Chrismas faces up to five years in federal prison for each count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">The FBI\u2019s Art Crime Team investigated this case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">Assistant U.S. Attorneys Valerie L. Makarewicz of the Major Frauds Section and David W.
