The Washington Post’s Problems Now Include Its Publisher<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
Despite his claims to value diversity and inclusion, Will Lewis has made the top brass at The Washington Post an extremely diverse group of… white men.<\/span><\/div>\n

JUST SAYING<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

“I can’t sugarcoat it anymore,” Lewis declared about the urgent changes needed in the Washington Post newsroom.<\/span>
\nSo, Lewis, hired from the Rupert Murdoch School of Journalism, decided that the solution to the Washington Post’s problems was to install a white management trifecta. <\/span>
\nLewis seems to want to recreate a Murdoch\/Ailes version of the Washington Post, sidelining minorities in management.<\/span>
\nHaving spent three decades in four newsrooms in two states, I can attest that newspaper editors and publishers have always maintained that they have struggled to find “qualified” minorities.<\/span>
\nHowever, they have consistently managed to elevate their incompetent white pals and corporate good old boys to managers and editors \u2014 the ranks of leadership.<\/span>
\nI’ve had front-row seats to this incompetence, lack of creativity, managerial turf wars, and power trips. <\/span>
\nThis British import, Lewis, with his dubious past, and others like him have no understanding of the long-standing battles minorities have faced within the nation’s newsrooms.<\/span>
\nBezos and Lewis need to understand this history because minorities can’t continue to “sugarcoat” why diversity is crucial, especially in management.<\/span>
\nAnd, quite frankly, using another American economic cliche and borrowing it from a U.S. Supreme Court decision, “Boycotts are as American as apple pie,” in other words, cancel my subscription.<\/span>
